One of my birds Cinnamon died today. :cry:

Mouse, yes, my other bird swab is going on as if nothing happened. He still sings when I walk into the room and dances around when he wants out of the cage. In fact, he is happily chirping away on my shoulder right now. Thats a releif at least. I'm going to buy him some new toys for when I am not around to keep him company. I don't think I could get another bird now. Swab is 9 years old I don't know how he would react to another one.....

I'm glad Swab is doing so well. When our parakeet, Carmel, died suddenly about a year ago, I was afraid for Frisco, the cockatiel, he was so distraught. But he's always been a fraidy cat (still nervous of us, after many years), and very clingy with Carmel. We ended up getting him another parakeet companion (Sanibel) the same day, because I really feared for his sanity. It sounds as though Swab is so well bonded with you that he'll do just great.

I was so worried that maybe he might have caught what cinnamon had and I woke up every hour that night to make sure that he was still doing okay. He seems to be perfectly fine though thank goodness.

i was given a budgie when i was a kid and we ended up getting a second one (female). they ended up being mates, but the female died and since the male was a few years old already we didn't get another, but he was never the same after that. he had been really friendly before but after she was gone he was kind of a bitter old widow and wanted nothing to do with anyone. sad. i'm glad yours is doing ok

Awww, thats really sad ladyfaile. Cinnamon was female and swab is male but they were never particularly overly friendly with each other.

ah, so he's probably thinking "what, she's gone? ok. ooh a cracker!"

did they not share a cage? ours shared and the door was closed when the female died so the male was flapping around trying to get out, he was really freaked out, poor guy :(

Yes they shared a cage. He was not freaked out at all. I came in the door and he started whistling at me from the other room so I thought I'd let them out for awhile. He was just standing next to her, chirping away.
