View Full Version : Enzyme Supplement

Hi All!

I am new to Raw foodism. Well, I've been interested for about 2 years now and I've finally taken the plunge and gone raw except for 1 meal and 1 snack a day (ok, so somtimes it's a bit more, but its a start).

Anyway, I have lots of trouble doing veggie juice. Tried it different ways and just can't - not a this point anyway - I figure once my body is ready, it'll happen. I would like to take enzyme supplements and I know there are several kinds at the GNC, but they all have different things in them and I just get confused. Does anyone have any suggestions about a brand/type of enzyme supplement to take?

The ones at GNC are probably crappy. I take Lifegive HHI-zymes because I work at Hippocrates Health Institute and they are the enzymes we have there. Enzymatica has some good enzymes. Their DigestGold is good. Mitchell May is also coming out with a new enzyme product that is amazing, but they aren't out yet. I don't know the name of his brand. The health food store should have Enzymatica, or you could order some enzymes online.

Ask gaya, our resident biochemist about enzymes.
She's said before that it's a crock of crap to take enzymes in capsule form, or to expect raw food to provide enzymes.
My own experience w/ taking enzymes (Genestra brand) speaks to the contrary, however gaya is v. smart & has some interesting data to back up her side of things.

I know taking enzymes really makes a huge difference in my digestion, which is somewhat compromised because of Celiac disease. Just recently, I have upped the number of enzymes I take from 3-5 per meal to 8-15 per meal, and it has made a HUGE difference in my digestion. It's worth the extra money to me. I used to get bloated after eating and I would feel overly full for HOURS. But now that I'm taking more enzymes, I feel great.

No doubt someone with celiac, IBS, IBD etc would benefit from taking enzymes. I'm sure your intestines have been damaged by celiac. My position tho, is that if you do not have a disease then you don't have to worry about it. Oh and of course all that nonsense about how humans don't make enough enzymes and we need to conserve lol. Also, enzyme tablets need to be coated to with stand the stomach and not all companies do this and rip off unsuspecting consumers. I'm not doing a very good job staying out of this forum.
