View Full Version : I can't believe I need baby proof vitamin bottles for my CATS

For some reason, my cats are obsessed with my vitamin E. I don't know what it is that makes them want to eat them so bad, but they really really do. I had an empty capsule on my desk (i'm using it for my scars) and my cat tried to eat it, then tried to knock over the open bottle, so I put the cap on it and sat it on a shelf on the desk.

Yesterday I came home to find the bottle on the floor OPEN and vitamin E all over the place. I thought I'd picked them all up til in walks Atticus and tries to eat one he found under the dresser. I thought maybe I'd just not closed it tight enough, but now here I am sitting at my desk, the cat having jumped up and knocked the Vitamin E bottle onto the floor, watching him put his paw on the bottle to steady it and unscrewing the dang thing with his teeth. I can't believe I need child proof containers for my CAT.

[so no one worries, I'm going to store them someplace else... probably the fridge as Atticus can open every cabinet and drawer in the house]

I knew cats were clever, but I never realized they were THAT clever.

Actually, I used to have a cat who figured out how turn a doorknob with her paws in order to get the door open, but bottle caps? :surprised

that is hysterical! my cats do the same thing. and then i have to clean up oil off of xyz surface AND refill my vitamin containers. it kills me--and they can get into any cabinet/cupboard as well--so yeah---we babyproofed for the cats, not our kids!!!!!!!:wall:

hahahaha...

My kitty isn't quite as dextrous as yours is (or at least she doesn't want us to know about it), but she does have strange obsessions... like pepper. You know those little salt and pepper packets you might get if you order out? She loves those! I don't know why, but she'll sniff and lick them and love on them like it's catnip. Once as an experiment to see if she could distinguish the S from the P, I dumped a pile of the packets onto the floor and she actually picked out all the peppers and put them in a pile on the sofa and sat on them. When I tried to take them away from her, she growled at me and tried to defend them like they were her babies. She continued to lick, sniff, and roll around in packets of black pepper... I don't know why... you would think pepper would sting a kitty's sensitive nose.

Is vitamin E good for cats? lol

Is it vegetarian vitamin E? The "regular" kind is often made from fish oil, which might smell yummy to a cat.

Honestly, I don't know, I'm using it topically... but it doesn't smell anything like fish oil!!

They might just like chewing on the capsules. My cat Marta loves chewing on squishy things like that. Rubber bands are her favorite. She eats them. :-/
