View Full Version : Period MIA, but still getting PMS?

So, I haven't had my period in 3 months. The doctor's checkup was normal; he says it's probably because I run so much - it's interfering with my pituitary connection to my ovaries & c. I'm still not terribly disturbed by this because he says I'm quite healthy otherwise and if I were to cut back on my running I'd get it back again (and eventually, when my body gets used to the volume of miles I do, it'll probably come back anyway - so he says).
The question, however, is - is it possible to still get PMS with no period? I haven't had a period in 3 months, as I say, but around the time when I used to get PMS I still get it! No flow, just the mood swings, tearfulness, irritability, etc. Ostensibly, if my pituitary function is messed up, my hormones should be all in flux and that's why no period. So, no hormones should = no PMS, right? But I guess the hormones could still be there and simply not be enough to cause a period.
Now I've read in a couple of places that it's possible for one to still get a period and have it simply be an internal thing because the flow is so light it just gets reabsorbed. And if that's the case then still getting PMS would makes sense. I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this?

i know how you are feeling....
i have a tip for you that you might want to try...i posted a while back with the same problem and it turns out that my hormones are affected by to much soy in my diet...i guess it messes with estrogen or something so i stopped eating it for 3 days and my period came back with a vengence! i found a bunch of websites that call soy 'natures birth control' because it can be so effective in preventing menstruation...i dunno give it a try...it kinda made sense to me because i started eating a ton of soy after going veg around 8 weeks ago...i always had a regular cycle and as soon as i added soy to replace animal foods it messed me up...i know its hard to hear because a lot of veggies rely on soy products but you might want to try...its cheaper than a visit to a specialist and a bunch of meds! good luck:shy:

Milk substitutes include cereal and nut milks, such as oat, rice, almond and hazelnut milks, and you can also get rice or oat creams (at least in my HFS). As for main meals, beans, legumes and wholegrains are the way to go. If you enjoy fake meats, you can always try seitan (wheat protein). Hope this helps!
