OK everyone..
A bunch of people are upset about the telemarketing calls from PETA so I thought I woul dthrow out a question.

My question to all of you is, "Who is a better representative for us and our cause concerning the treatment of animals, PETA or The Farm Sanctuary?"

Keep in mind many of us agree that force and violence is not the way to get our points across. One of these two will tend to go this way, which is NOT a good representation for us.

Just wanted to throw it out there.

KEEP IN MIND I DID NOT SAY I 'DO NOT LIKE' ANY OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS, ALTHOUGH I DO BELIEVE ONE OF THEM IS MORE PROFESSIONAL, COMPASSIONATE AND SUCCESFULL AT WHAT THEY DO.

In good Health!

I like Farm Sanctuary a lot, but they're not as widely known as PETA. I wish they were. PETA is very in-your-face but it also gives veg*n's a bad name.

I give money to both, but give more to Farm Sanctuary.

Farm Sanctuary, hands down. I haven't seen any sexist stuff on their webiste, whereas PETA. . . well, I won't get into it, to prevent a possible flame war.

Love farm sancturary, if I ever strike it really rich they'll be getting an extra couple hundred acres of land. I really really hope I get to visit the NY shelter this summer. Peta, not so much...

Farm Sanctuary is why I'm vegetarian now. It guided me to this choice 4 years ago.

PETA is a better 'representative' due to the fact that they are larger and have more influence and power. This is in no way means they represent my views any more than Farm Sanctuary.

Power and wealth doesn't represent me, values and philosophies do.

I don't follow the campaign of either organization so I'm not sure I could answer this.

while I think PETA has some great information and they are trying to bring awareness, I highly dislike their tactics when it comes to recruiting and feel that they do not represent me and my views. I know very little about Farm Sanctuary I have given them money and think they represent my better.

Any PETA reps on this site?
This may be a good thread to keep an eye on and maybe see what 'YOUR OWN' people are saying. This may help not only help your cause, but our cause.
There is nothing wrong with constructive critisism. This is not what I intended of this thread, but now that I think of it this may be a great thing!
I suggest everyone to give their honest opinion and hopefully both the Farm Sanctuary and PETA will grow from some of the input. It may help all of us. :)

Another reason why I would take PETA is because they are multi-purposed unlike Farm Sanctuary.

Someone claimed FS is more AW than AR. If that's true then PETA would represents me more. And THX-1138's point about multi-purposed is true too.

But PETA does some things I don't like, and they sometimes seem to have a bit superficial take on life, which doesn't represent me.

Both work for the interest of animals, their styles are different, i consider both are doing good job, we need more and more such organizations.

I admire PeTA for their boldness and recognize their effectiveness (they have brought things into public consciousness to the point of "peta" being a household name and "animal rights" a concept people have heard about). I am so grateful for their support of activists, for their willingness to share activist materials at a low cost or for free, for their dedication to the cause, for their unapologetic behaviors and statements, and for their usually-unflappable abolitionist message. "Meat Your Meat" alone is an amazing *wake up* tool. I have witnessed many people visibly moved and subsequently transformed by viewing this short piece of tape.

My experience at Farm Sanctuary was the reason I went vegan (the day that I arrived there) and never looked back. It is also the reason I became an activist. Meeting those animals- for the first time physically seeing them alive rather than chopped up into cutlets or their products as scrambled eggs and cheese sandwiches- was very powerful. I have incredible respect for the amount of work and heart it takes to rescue animals from horrible situations and provide all of the care they need and to confront awful cruelty up-front and use what you see and learn to help others change for the better.

Overall, I wish PeTA would ditch the celebrity-worship and the naked ladies and just "let the animals tell their own stories" a little more. And I do feel that FS has taken a more welfarist stance than I am comfortable with. So overall there are things I like and dislike about each organization, but I support both when I am able.

PETA ,but like FS too. Naked ladies get attention faster then just about any other way I can think of. LOL j/k. but lets be real even with running of the nude's there not naked dang close but......

Bunch of good points here for both PETA and Farm Santuary. I send them both a little money, but personally I think PETA is more valuable to our cause because they reach more people with their very broad programs. Our society ticks me off just enough to like and participate in the 'in-your-face' tactics (I am hoping more respond positive than negative, but not sure), and their using the media in whatever manner seems to be using the system to reach those who unfortunately are too ignorant to hear of our cause otherwise.
The Farm Sanctuary is dedicated and focused and effective in their own way. May their be more and more of such groups.
But PETA and Ingrid Newkirk are awesome in my opinion.
Best to all.

i think force and violence are good, i vote peta lol. actually i like both of them, i hate when people start harping on peta for, oh their tactics, or oh theyre logic, etc... whatever, they do MORE for any animal related situations than any other one place, organization or company has ever done.

so what if the kfcs burn down and the meat packers get their fingers chopped off and who cares if all the immigrants are deported back to whatever countries theyre from illegally butchering poor animals. I guess im just one of those people who could see a person get hit and forget all about it an hour later, see an animal of any size get hit and ill remember it weeks from now.

I have actually never heard of farm sanctuary. I have to admit tho, I first heard about the treatment of animals through PETA. Even though they put people off, they are able to reach more people b/c of how big they are.

I believe that "Peaceable Kingdom", a documentary about Farm Sanctuary, uses footage provided by PETA. It seems that FS isn't so opposed to PETA. I don't know too much about either organization but it seems to me that you need different people covering veg*nism from different angles to reach different people. I don't support ALF's tatics but I understand what they are doing and why they are doing it -- I see PETA in the same way (from what I've heard about them).
