Check this out:

I heard this guy speak the other day, & while he's not vegan, his soaps are!! (With the exception of one that has honey).
The soaps are handmade from organic olive oil, & scented w/ only essential oils & herbs.
This is a great alternative to veg*n soaps from crappy companies like the Body Shop!! Olivier is a small company that gives back to the community & is eco-sensitive & sustainable. They have a fantastic philosophy- & THIS IS THE BEST SOAP ON EARTH!!:nana:

Looks like some (most actually) of the soaps have beeswax in them though. :( As an FYI for any Vegan considering..

Wow, you're right, almost every bar has beeswax in it. I used to make soap once upon a time and I think they do that for bar 'hardness'. Looks like one has goat's milk and another has "musk oil" in it as well...not sure if it's synthetic or not.

I've long been a fan of Dr. Bronners, but have been wanting to branch out for sake of variety. This soap looked good, but the beeswax is a deal breaker.

I buy my soap online at Lush.com Systmc. I love their soaps. The vegan ones are marked with a big V. Actually, the majority of their soaps are vegan..I think there's like 16 of them. I just ordered the Rock Star soap yesterday. If you order their soap, when you get it cut it in half and wrap the other half in a plastic bag or something. It lasts longer that way. I love the creaminess and the moisturizing qualities of their soaps..and most smell awesome.

My apologies for not noting the beeswax.
I had spoken to the guy who makes this & he had said the soaps were 99% animal-free, so I guess this another instance of bees not being accepted as animals.
I think I will still order this soap because I will be supporting a lard/tallow-free, all-natural, certified organic, local business with great ethics & heritage.

I use Dr. Bronner's too.

YodelingFish!! I've been dying to get my hands on that stuff but the site has been down FOREVER. It's been over a year that I've been checking in on them and they're still closed!
That's OK, though because a LUSH store is opening in A.C. soon and the 45-minute drive (half hour if I take the Celica, hehehe) down there will be well worth it... I can't freakin' wait!

ETA: Oh, and for my contribution: I love Dirty Kitty, but umm... I just went to check the website and it's not there anymore  Oh god, if they've closed down that's another thing to scratch off my list of Things Worth Living For. It's almost time to stock up again, too...

I know, I had a store credit there - I went back to use it and the site is gone! When I get around to it I'm going to e-mail her and see what's going on.
As for Yodelingfish, I think it will be reopening eventually (I hope! :)). Charity (the owner) has had a really hard year.
In the meantime, I highly recommend Wylde Ivy.

Just read on the Olivier Soaps website, which I originally posted about here, that the company is completely against animal testing & animal by-products in their products.
Should I tell them bees are animals, or is beeswax not considered a by-product?
(There is beeswax in all their soaps).
In any case, I rescued a wasp today & I still plan on buying these beeswax-based soaps because they are the most ecologically-sound, ethically-produced beauty products I have ever encountered.

You could also just make your own soap and also save a lot of money in the process. Those soaps are pretty expensive.

I want to make my own soap but it seems complex. (I am not that crafty)

you should TOTALLY send him an email (and since they're in Québec I will send them an email too ...in french!) You should let them know that there are fantastic substitutes to beeswax that are healthier and cheaper, on top of being cruelty free.
And tell them that you will buy their products when they have no beeswax in them.
Honey and beeswax is a big issue for me. there are so many companies that are ethically sound in every other way but insist on using bee products...it's a kind of block, because there are so many people out ther who call themselves Vegan and use bee products.
Some of Lush's products are not vegan but most are. And the great thing about Lush is that they go to the furthest extent. Not only are their products not animal tested but they don't buy ingredients from companies that do animal tests....so it's at the furthest level ;-)
