I am impressed by what I've read about eating raw:vebo: :bobo: .
However it is a *nightmare* attempting it while being on a weird work schedule.
I find it impossible to carry the food w/ me- there's only a bar fridge at work (full of meat & pop from other employees), there's no room here in my tiny newsroom for a cooler, I don't have a car....
I guess I am wondering if anyone else here has a v. active/busy schedule & manages to transport & eat raw food in quantities sufficient to quell a big appetite.
Or is my daily VEGA shake with blueberries & bananas raw enough for one day?

I would definitely recommend eating at least on large green leafy salad per day. Greens are a very important part of anyone's diet. How many hours do you work? Do you have dinner at home? If so, make sure to have your big salad then so you don't have to take it to work. Fruits and nuts and raw crackers are easy things to carry to work with you. I always used to take my salads to work with me, but we had a refrigerator so it was easy and I worked at a health food store so I could grab snacks whenever I wanted. Now I work at a health institute where they prepare all my raw food for me and I have to say I really am getting spoiled.

Well said rawgirl. It may take some adjustment but once you get used to eating raw it won't be so difficult to incoporate the diet into a busy life.
And that's coming from someone who's 45% raw!!! Ok, so I'm no expert but like rawgirl says, you can easily carry fruit, nuts, seeds and others raw foods around.

When I travel, I live off salad bars and Subway sandwich shops. I realize the vegetables and fruits may not be organic, but they are raw and fresh. Sometimes, I go to the market and pick up organic stuff if I can and bring it back to my hotel. My raw gourmet is usually for when I am home.

It can be more challenging to eat cooked vegan on the go as you need some kind of appliance for preparation.
Many fruits travel well in their own skins like bananas, apples, oranges, etc. which don't require refrigetration. Salads are easy too. Throw mixed leaves in a ziplock bag and take a small bottle of dressing or citrus fruit to squeeze over it.
Maybe try a backpack...
Or run into any supermarket and pick up a bunch of bananas or a prewashed bag of organic lettuce and an orange to squeeze over it. Or a couple of cucumbers. A few baskets of berries, or a pound of grapes. Easier to buy organic if possible - throw some water over it in the parking lot from a water bottle - any bugs that may inadvertantly sneak in is just a plus - a little extra protein.
Raw food is all about getting the most natural food into you. However many people do several days worth of raw recipes and portion them out. Whatever works for you.
If you're not very active your caloric needs would be lower. Are you burning quite a lot of calories during the day?
Your sweeter fruits (nanas, grapes, mangos, etc) are more calorically dense. Some people who don't care as much about fat intake use nuts and seeds or dates or dried fruit to fill them up - it may help to keep some around in zip bags for as-needed stash. When you are accustomed to the lighter feeling you'll find you won't need to reach for them as often.

goatee, they charge me for a Veggie Delite salad. The Veggie Delite salad allows you to pic what fruit and vegetables you want on your salad.

You can also order at Wendy's. They have a Spinach salad, ask for it without the cheese and croutons. And the have a fruit cup or fruit bowl, tell them you don't need the dip. And finally they carry bottled water.

i second that :spew:
I always pack a cooler so I won't be caught without healthy food. not too much stuff needs to be that cold anyways.
I usually partially freeze a healthy green drink, carrot juice or protein shake,
some broccoli and baby carrots with hummus for dipping, or some shredded kale that I tossed with olive oil, sesame and sunflower seeds.
I am not raw so I pack PB and banana or apple on whole grain toast too... no fridge needed.

You can't get you a fridge? Get you one and plug that mug up, and put your food in it. You're you'll be good to go then brosky hahaa. Well that if they will allow you to put your owns in there. But if so, put you one in the building.
Where I work we have a big breakroom and a regular sized fridge in there. Like the ones you put in your house in the kitchen. Haha. I bring my lunch and put it in here. :)

Samuel,
What dressing do you use?
I just use squeezed lemon wedges. That is the only choice, none of the dressing would be raw and even if they said they were, there would be no way I would trust Subway. I only trust them with fresh produce that I can visually inspect.

Oh, I didin't know they had salads -- I thought you were orderiing a sandwhich and telling them to hold the bun. So you aren't as clever as I thought you were, lol. :)

I mix a green drink from Barleen's powder and some chopped frozen peaches or banana in the blender. you can order it online from cosmo's vegan shoppe.
Bolthouse Farms makes carrot juice. it's in the produce section. My HFS makes fresh carrot juice, but i can't afford either now, sadly.
