... only they were Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Steak Strips and they were so good! It was so like the real thing that there are probably some people here who wouldn't want to eat it! We didn't marinate it the way you would meat (it would probably disintegrate), but we kind of poured the fajita marinade over it as we cooked it. Had it with grilled onions & peppers plus all the fixin's-- diced tomaoes, shredded cheese, guacamole, salsa... to die for! I had the leftovers in the form of quesadillas today. Yum!
PS: I was sure Tofu-N-Sprouts had already started a thread to talk about these Meal Starters, but it didn't come up when I searched. :-/

Yeah, I did start a thread, but another one's OK too! I love the things and am just suprised there aren't more people raving over them... of course, there's no accounting for taste - I wasn't ever an omni, so I may have no idea what I'm talking about...
Interestingly enough, some people prefer JUST the chicken style, others only the "beef" style...
I made a KILLER (hahaha - ooops, maybe not such a good vegan term!!) chicken-and-green-chile stew with the "chicken" style ones the other night... my kids were very sad when it was gone...

Ohh! I love the chik'n version. I have not tried the steak. I have never had steak before in my life, so im not sure if i'd like the taste or not.

Hey, there's no time like the present to try a new food! I never had tempeh in my life, but I tried it the other day and I really liked it! So try 'em!

I used the Chick'n ones for Chick'n & Dumplings and my omni BF loved it. I think it was the dough balls though... everyone loves dough balls!! :D I would have added the Chick'n last after I browned it though. I added it in with the veg and it got a little squishy.

It is a very good thing when us Texans can have our fajitas!
:sunny:
The steak ones are much better than the chicken ones IMO. But there are so many fake chicken items that the steak seem like a real treat.

This is one of my favorite things to make. I have marinated the strips in the fridge for an hour. They do get soggy easily, but if you saute them on the stove long enough they firm up. The only flaw with these things is you can't cook them submerged in liquid like you could meat. It's so nice to have fajitas again, though. I too prefer the steak ones. Not exactly sure why, perhaps it is because they are so different.

I LOVE the Chick'n ones. I use them in the Chick'n and Dumplings recipe that T-N-S shared and my omni husband loved it. I use it for everything to replace chicken. My kids on the other hand are not crazy about it. I have yet to try the 'steak' ones but after reading this thread, I am going to have to try them for fajitas.

I love these things! We make a big veggie stir fry, add rice and the steak strips. :lick:
Their "ground beef" is awesome too!

we just had the chik'n ones and they were pretty good. they got kind of fatty weird tasting or something towards the end, so I gave 'em to my dogs. But I liked them.
I was reluctant to try the steak, but now I totally will! The ground hamburger crumbles are awesome, especially after the last "ground hamburger" substitute fiasco I had. (it tasted like evil)

I've only had the steak ones. We put it in stroganoff, and it was good. I think fajitas sound great! I prefer the quorn brand chix strips.

BTW, I just bought a new package of these with the restyled MF logo, and they no longer have the Certified Vegan seal on them! :worried: But I don't SEE any non-vegan ingredients...

I've only tried the chicken ones. I used them in my Thai Curry chicken recipe. (I used tofu once too and it was also good). I'm going to have to buy the steak ones next time I'm at the store.

I'd be careful about giving veggie products to animals unless their indicted for the dogs. Corn is in a lot of products and that is very deadly because they cannot digest it.
I loved the steak strips though, I shredded them in bbq sauce and they made a good bbq sandwich

ohhh sounds yum! :lick: I haven't tried the steak yet - I love their ground "beef". I use a packet of taco seasoning for burritos/tacos. Soooo good. And quesadillas for leftovers is good - I actually have a quesadilla maker.

I always make Chick'n and Dumplings for the family. And even my omni father (who loves his meat) will eat it.
