She's a rescue. After the slightly embarassing episode a couple of weeks ago when I fell for a net hoax, there is now a real live girl puppy who needs a home. However, my apartment complex has very strict rules about there being no dogs with any pit or rott ancestry. What would you guess she is? She just looks like she needs love though, doesn't she?

Your guess is as good as mine. She looks very sweet. IMO it seems very unfair for your apt. complex to have strict rules about dog ancestry. It's not like you'd be bringing in a dog with a history of aggressive behavior or anything. :(

I think that she looks like a baby Pitbull.
She's absolutely beautiful.

She just looks like she needs love though, doesn't she?Yeah she does.
I can't really tell her breed from that picture. How old is she? Her feet don't look too big from that angle. The size of their feet are usually a good indication of how big they'll get. What's the shelter calling her? She might have some pit or similiar breed in her, but I can't really tell.

She is gorgeous!!!
She looks as though she may have a bit of jack russel in her but their is definitely no rottweiler there unless a dog expert can prove otherwise. I dnt know anything about pitt bulls, they are illegal in England! Iv never evn seen one before
Hmmm Jack Russells have pointed ears dont they??? Where could she have possibly got her floppy ears from?

It does look like she has pit in her. this makes me so sad. down at the shelter where I work we get in pits all the time and they are always the sweetest dogs in the entire world.
Although, she could have pointer in her. Are there any other pictures of her? If I could see her standing up, I could have a better guess.

I did some searching online to see what a real baby pitbull looks like. They look a lot like the puppy that you're asking about. Maybe the puppy that you're asking about is a pitbull mix?

From looking at that one picture of her, she looks like she's either full-blooded pitbull or a mix of it.
She's really pretty and she looks like she's needs some major cuddling. What are the chances you could get away with having her if she does have pit in her? "pit/rott ancestry" how silly!

They are guessing about 10 weeks old? Although she looks older than that to me. This picture has a better shot of her feet. Her feet don't look too big for her, so I'm thinking she's not gonna be huge.
Her eyes don't look like pit, but her coloration seems to be common to pits.

Oh, man! She's really freaking adorable :smitten: She looks so shy and "love me!" at the same time.

she could be an American Bulldog, they have the short coarse hair like pits and very similar coloring. The ears are bigger than pit bull ears usually are.

I can see similarities in the body but the face doesn't match at all.

it looks similar to those ones, but its just a guess. It might be a mixed breed wich could be why it looks similar to a few different types

I know. She's just beautiful. The good news is the lady who has her can keep her if she has to. But we've been getting ready to have a dog.
As far as the apartment rules, I would guess there's some legality involved. It's a big complex, part of a huge chain. At some point someone must have gotten hurt by one or both breeds and sued I would guess. But there's nothing I can do about it. No pits, no rotts, and less than 100 lbs.
I think she would be ok on the weight, but I can't take her and have to give her back. Even if the lady would gladly take her back, my boys would just be devastated. Five months after his passing, they still talk about Jake the hamster and they were too nervous to even touch him.
The funny thing is my sister has two rotty mixes and they are the sweetest things.

From the second pic, I'm guessing she'll be medium-size, 50 to 60 lbs. Probably is some pit in her. You could always take the pics to the landlord to ask their opinion and get them to sign off on being able to adopt her. If they tell you it's okay to adopt, then they can't go back and tell you to get rid of her later.

I was going to suggest the same as Kpickell, or you could ask that a pitt friendly vet id her as another type of mix w/ similar coloring, etc. It can't hurt to try (as long as your kids don't see her)

Well we have a close family friend that's a vet. So that might be an option.

Just tell the apartment that she is a mutt. Even if she does have Pitt in her, doesn't look like there is any Rotty in her, if you don't clip her ears she won't look like a pitt.
How big is she? If she is already about 7-8 pounds there si no way she is a jack russel, they are small dogs.

Could you say that she is an American Staffordshire Terrier or would that be too closely related to a pitbull? One of my friends got around her apartment's legal agreement by saying that her dog was an amstaff. They look a lot like pitbulls.

rat terrier or jack russel possibly pit bull.

In my opinion she has pit bull in her but it is going to be hard to tell how pity she looks untils he is older. Then you can tell about how much by the size of her jaw muscles and stalkyness of her chest. Looking straight at her when she is older and she is standing if she is boxy in both body and face she is probably more than 50% pit. Those ears don't look pit to me though. The brindle coloring is very pit-ish. Her eyes are very dark for a pit.

It looks like she might have some pit bull in her. She is absolutely darling!
What state do you live in? That's not fair that they don't allow you to have a dog with pit ancestry. Sounds like Colorado... they tried banning pit bulls :(
Let us know what happens. I would try every loop hole there is.

Well... she looks like she has some pitt in her. But why not keep her anyway? The apartment complex would have to prove her ancestry. I can't see "looks vaguely like she might have some pitt in her or not" is really enough to contravene the rules.

Well, they would have to approve her before we can get her. And if they suspect.... I think basically the onus would be ours to prove she *isn't* pit bull and that would be basically impossible.
Like I said the good news is she is currently staying with a local A/R activist and if they can't find a home for her, she will keep her. So she's not in any danger.
