I just wanted to let people know about Jason Natural Dandruff Relief shampoo, which is working great on my serious scalp itch. (I don't get much of a dandruff problem, but in the winter, especially, I get scalp itch that could drive me mad.)
I had posted before about the pine tar shampoo I used to use, which is definitely NOT vegan (it has tallow in it), and I was looking for a replacement product. The Jason stuff works wonders.
The bottle says to leave it on the scalp for 2-3 minutes, so I put it on when I first get in the shower, and then go through the rest of my washing routine before rinsing it out. The bottle also says that it doesn't need to be used everyday, which seems to be the case so far. (I alternate between that and whatever other vegan shampoo I have on hand.)
So, I just thought I'd post that for anyone who has scalp itch problems.

Thats great, I have itchy scalp, and so far I've only used Head and Shoulders, which is made by P&G.
Two questions...
Where did you buy it?
Is it tested on animals?

Jason products are mostly all vegan(some may have honey?), and non are tested on animals. They can be found at places like Whole Foods, maybe Trader Joe's, the Wild Harvest section of Shaws....basiclly wherever you see organic type stuff.

Good to know... my teenage daughter has a tough time with an itchy scalp - I have tried several products but not a lot of luck yet, we'll definitely look for this!

Sorry, I've been out of commission for a while...
I picked up the Jason dandruff stuff at a local health food store. They also have a website which has a link to an online store. http://www.jason-natural.com/
There are a lot of online places to buy it, like http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/, and I'm sure a lot of vegan-friendly sites carry it too.
Again, I think the real trick with this stuff is to (aha!) follow the directions on the bottle - which says to leave it in for 2-3 minutes. I put it in at the start of my shower, put my hair up in a clip (I have long hair) and go through the rest of my shower routine. Then I rinse it out. I don't think I've had a serious itch urge (the I-want-to-rip-my-scalp-off kind of itch) since I've started using it. And I don't use it every day either.

Not to be a party pooper, but dandruff can be a symptom of a B-12 deficiency. As veg*ns you should check that since all the shampoo in the world won't fix that. Btw, I love Jason's products!

How long have you used this stuff? I would be willing to try it if you've used it for about 6 months and have had no problems because I used Jason's Tea Tree Oil shampoo that is supposed to help with dandruff and all but then after about 4 months of using it I started to get dandruff again and I couldn't figure out why. I'm still looking for a great vegan, color-safe, anti-dandruff shampoo, which is proving much harder than it needs to be!

Actually, I just bought one of Paula Begoun's books on hair products, where she goes through all the ingrediants in them and says what's good and what's not...and Jason's Tea Tree dandruff shampoo actually was not recommeded, as it can be drying/irritating to the scalp. So if people want to use it, just keep in mind it may be irritating!

Today's lesson: Dandruff. There are various reasons people get dandruff. Hair products, or incorrect washing techniques, and yeast, to name the more common. Most people like their showers hot. Unfortunately this is not best for your scalp, hair, or skin, and can cause dandruff and dry skin. You should use room temperature water or lower. Most people use too much shampoo. You only need about a nickle sized amount for average lengthed hair, for short hair not much more than a penny sized, and long hair about a half-dollar. Using too much shampoo will strip your scalp of all its natural oils. Not a good thing. But, on the other hand, you don't want too much oil. When rinsing most people don't rinse well enough. Make sure that you wash out all of the shampoo. When you think all shampoo is gone, allow another half minute of constant water flow to ensure that residues are gone. If you don't, when you condition you will seal any residue onto yout scalp. Also, excessive use of styling products is not good for your hair or your scalp and can help to dry your scalp. Next we have yeast -- the most common reason for dandruff. Dandruff is a minor infection of the scalp caused by an overabundance of a micro-organism called Pityrosporum ovale (P. ovale), a yeast-like fungus that is part of the normal skin flora. It feeds off an over abundance of oil.
Now, start washing your hair correctly, use cooler water temperatures, rinse thuroughly, and use Nizoral, it's the only dandruf shampoo that treats the yeast, don't waste your money on the other stuff.

Yes, but is Nizoral animal- and earth-friendly?
My other question to Piratebean is, is that JASON dandruff shampoo the stuff that reeks of sulfur? I picked that up one day in Whole Foods, and I'm not sure I can put anything that smells that bad on my head!
PS: Oh, egad. Looking at the picture on their website, I think it is.

BTW, I was doing a little research on Nizoral, and I found this website where it made the list of top shampoos to avoid:
