I bought some last night & read that it contained chitosan, which it called a "marine biopolymer". That raised my suspicions so I googled it, & found out chitosan is:

is a fiber-like product made from ground shrimp shells that inhibits fat absorption. It is not digestible and has the ability to absorb many times its weight in fats, preventing their absorption through the intestinal wall.

NOT veg*n!!

So I am returning the toothpaste, & telling the store why. I also plan on writing to DEsert Essence, which has plenty of veg*n items, but not this one!!

Uh-oh, that's not a good sign-- a substance that prevents absorption of fat is bound to become a popular food additive.

Actually it's just one of a gazillion substances hyped for fat-blocking/burning ability that may or may not work.

Don't know what it's doing in toothpaste...

Well, sure. Of course, it's people's perception of what it does that will make it popular, whether it's true or not. I was wondering why on earth toothpaste would need that sort of thing as well.

I saw an infomercial selling that stuff as a weight loss aid. That is so bizare that it would be put in toothpaste.
