Is there a certain first name of the gender you're attracted to that turns you off?

Can you single out a name that you've had nothing but bad experience with?

I can. I would find it very hard to date or trust a John.

I had 2 Johns cheat on me

One John kidnapped me with a gun and threatened my life as well as my family's

Another John tried to rape me

Needless to say the name only brings up bad images for me. I am also quick to envision the images that John is the guy that picks up prostitutes and John (Doe) is a dead guy.

Am I alone in this? Obviously it is not only Johns that do wrong in this world, but there is too much of a pattern with Johns in my life.

Maybe you haven't noticed the same exact name, but still some kind of name pattern???

My Dad married my mom Veronica --- but he called her Ronnie.
When they split up he started dating Bonnie.....
It was after Bonnie that he started to date another Ronnie. (Weird huh?)

Don't say John. That is my wonderful husbands name.

I would say that I am cursed with the name Ryan though. I so love that name. Most Ryan's that I have know in my life are so darn hot, but oh so bad.:whack: Cheated and lied too. But I swear I perk up if I hear the name Ryan though. Just like I post I read earlier.:p I have a love hate relationship with Ryan's.

Dwayne!

Just because anyone with that name really needs to change it!

Someone with an ex's name (no need to list here) would be kinda weird, but I wouldn't discount someone just because of that. This past Sunday, though, was the local vegan Meetup, and I sat across from someone who looked and spoke almost exactly like the last person I dated -- and her first name was the latter's middle name!

Similarly it'd be weird for someone to have my mother's first name, but Esther stopped being popular long enough ago that I am likely to never have that happen. Now, if she happened to drive a Saab ..... I've had a number of people who did screw me over one way or another and that'd be freaky.

My ex-wife's first name was the same as that of someone across the street when I was a kid, and that took me a couple of years to get used to.

I tend to just stay away from names started with "J" altogether.

Jason, Josh, Jordan, John, James, Jacob....all of them caused me nothing but grief.

To hell with them :P

Matts in general seem to be hot and charming but pretty vapid underneath...
(no offence! obviously im just talking about the ones ive met!!!)
but im starting to think thats just coz its a common name in this generation and sadly, hot and charming but vapid underneath type boys are also common.

LOL LOL... I think this is all very strongly connected with experiences from the past. A couple of names relating to classmates from school I didn't like are still "yucky" to me now, 30 years later... And there is one name I prefer to NEVER hear again because he was the most awful boss anyone could think of : BRUNO. Kill all Bruno's !!!

I knew a guy named Bruno once. He was a nice fellow.

I don't know if I could date a Rob. There's only been one other one, but it'd just be too weird.

STEVE. Steves are undateable but are usually fun to hang out with and every Steve I have ever met has glasses. I would never date another John or another Mark. Mark is my husbands name and every John I have ever known just wanted to have sex with me, no relationship. Johns are very shallow and have no life goals.

heheh... I think that was "Bluto". :)

Factoid: Latenight TV host Johnny Carson's first three wives were named Joan, Joanne and Joanna, respectively. All three marriages ended in divorce.

Jeffrey. I've dated several Jeff's (all ending especially and dramatically badly) and I've now vowed to stay away from them completely. My friend and I actually were both flirting w/a guy until he introducted himself as Jeff; I let her take it from there.

Well, considering John is one of the most common names around, the chances are probably just higher that you would know more than one man with that name who's a jerk.

Names that I hate: Todd, Wayne, Dwayne, Jason, Ryan, Tyler, Brendan/Brandon, Kyle

I have no personal stories connected to anyone with these names, and I'm sure there are some perfectly nice men who have them, but I just couldn't see myself with anyone with them...

I second what Anthony said about people with same name as exs. Although it's hard to steer clear from common names like Kostas, John or Jim. I think another Kostas would be bad (2 exs), but my second bf - called Kostis- is also my closest friend, so it's not that I have a problem with the name, I'd just prefer... more variety???

Charlie and Mitch. Blech. I will never date a Charlie or especially a Mitch again!
