Alright, my period is missing...its a week late, approximatley. This is really unusual for me, and has me wondering if there is a unique health problem associated with losing your period, or having it be messed up.
I took a pregnancy test two days ago and it was negative- it was a blood test. How accurate are these? I really don't think that I am pregnant, since I've taken two home tests and then the one at the doctor.
I've been having a lot of digestive issues, but I don't really know if that would make a difference. So, I'm just wondering thats going on, if you have any ideas.

Any new medications lately? Change in contraception? Stressed out more then usual?

stress, changes in diet or activity level (ie working out really hard), sudden weight loss?

when in doubt see a doctor.

i occassionally skip periods too, for reasons that i don't necessarily know or understand. generally, two a year. often, one in summer and one in winter.

I guess it is probably nothing, but I have been ill lately, so it seems like something is majorly not right. I've had really deep cramping, feels like menstral cramps but more painful and go away for hours at a time- more on the left side. I wonder what could be going on.

Rainbowmoon, my period has been missing since early October :( (actually started my own thread about this a few weeks ago)

Even though I have not menstruated in almost 5 months, I too am experiencing that sporadic, deep cramping sensation you described. I will wake up in the morning feeling like I'm ovulating like I've never ovul'ed before, and... nothing. I went to the gyno about 3 weeks ago, had the pregnancy test, the hormone test, the thyroid, the petuitary, everything! All came back normal/negative. So neither my gyno nor I have any idea what's wrong! Her explanation was basically that sometimes for seemingly no reason, your body just stops doing what it's supposed to and needs a little help (yeah... ok....) and so she prescribed for me Prometrium, which is progesterone. She said to take it for 2 weeks and I should start to menstruate sometime during then. I only have 5 pills left to go, and still nothing. So I guess I'll see what happens in the next 5 days. If not, I guess I am just some kind of freak! :(

Would an ectoptic pregnancy (extra-uterine) show up as positive or negative with a blood test? Perhaps you should mention your pain to the doctor who did the blood-test and ask him what he thinks. I agree with Lady Faile here. If you're having this unusual pain, you should get it checked.

Keep us updated.

Ok, I went to a doctor on campus, and she told me I have a yeast infection. Its difficult to argue with a doctor, you know? I have medicine for the yeast. I started my period and its extremely heavy. I'm already anemic and I feel like I'm bleeding to death. lol. I seriously feel crappy, it just feels like blood is shooting out! Yeah, thats gross. We'll see what happens.

Ick, sorry to hear.... but at least you're getting back to normal now. I can't even begin to imagine how BAD mine will be if/when I finally get it again, after 5 months of errmm... "buildup". Hope you are feeling better soon, RM!

The last period I had was in August. Its really concerning when your body stops doing things it is supposed too. I hope you feel better soon. :)

the last period i had was in november. it sure is sad when your body doesn't do what it's supposed to. :( ... and to think, i used to hate these things years ago, now all i hope for is to wake up in a slew of blood. (sorry if that was nasty, i just really want my period)

if you've missed three cycles, you should see your gyno, if you haven't already.

there could definitely be things going wrong with your body that you need to know about.

I'm glad you found out what the issue was. Hope you get rid of the yeast infection soon!

Aww, you're not a freak, Katt. Do you think maybe its all the exercise you do or the weight you've lost? Sometimes those things can effect periods. Did you ever get this figured out?

Katt- I've been to the gyno because I haven't had my period in over a year. They did blood tests, everything came out great, but still no period. I think I took the same meds. I took them for 10 days and then it would come 3-10 days after that. If it doesn't work, you're not a freak, it didn't work for me the first time. I started taking it again and I have my last pill today. So I'll see in 3-10 days if it works...it supposedly should.

I had to take those but my doctor told me my body didnt have enough estrogen at all so the 'jumpstart' pills would most likely not work. Well, he was right and now i have to take Yasmin, the birth control, to have a period. Its really annoying, i hate taking bc because im not sexually active at all and i hate having to worry about taking them all the time. So, i hope your jumpstart pills work... good luck!

Hi all, very interesting thread... I was without my period for 3 months when i thought I should get it checked out. Long story short i went onto a great herb called VITEX (aka chastetree berry or agnus castus) and I became regular as clockwork! I still am, even when i don't take it religiously. I cannot recommend this herb enough as it has also helped me with my pms tantrums!
