Well I just unpacked a box of some stuff I baught before I went vegan, and alot of them are from Proctor & Gamble. I was going to email them to ask if I could send them back for refund (even if I couldn't I would still be getting my opinions to them), but as I was going through their site I noticed this:

P&G has ended research involving animals on all our finished consumer products except when required by law. We use non-animal alternatives first. We'll only use animal testing when there are no other reasonable options.

In our Healthcare business, we're focused on developing innovative medicines that improve people's lives. Current regulatory standards require animal research while developing these medications. It's our policy to use the minimum number of animals necessary while working toward our goal of the reduction and replacement of animals. We continue to identify screening techniques that are acceptable to global regulatory groups to take the place of animal tests in the earliest phase of drug discovery.

Through our pet care and nutrition products, we help dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives. We feed our foods first to dogs and cats to help us develop nutrition that delivers true health benefits to millions of pets worldwide. We make sure the dogs and cats we work with receive the best care. We treat them as if they're our own pets. They are adopted into loving homes or placed in our retirement facility when their help is no longer needed. At the same time, we're working hard on alternatives to find even better ways of getting these results and eliminating the need for additional research with other animals.

We'd rather use alternative test methods. Not only is the use of animals avoided, but reliable alternative tests generally cost less and take less time than animal research. We'd like to be able to eliminate animal research on ingredients in consumer products altogether, and we're making progress. We've invested over $190 million in alternatives, making us an industry leader. We've helped develop over 50 alternative methods and have shared our work in over 300 scientific publications. P&G is using the "finished consumer products" caveat to hide the fact that they are still engaging in widespread testing. Instead of spraying Tide into bunny's eyes, they now spray individual ingredients contained in Tide into bunny's eyes.

Iams, a P&G company claims that their laboratory dogs "are adopted into loving homes or placed in our retirement facility when their help is no longer needed." However, Iams can provide no proof that even one of their dogs has even been adopted into a loving home, and they refuse to allow PETA to inspect their "retirement facility." To say that they are looking for ways to end animal research in their pet food division is disingenuous because the law does not mandate animal testing on pet food. Other high quality pet food companies produce much better products without conducting any laboratory testing.

My favorite line from P&G's statement is, "We've invested over $190 million in alternatives, making us an industry leader." P&G spends that much on advertising each week.

So should I go ahead and email them and ask for refund, and tell them that I'll boycott them?

Ask for a refund, doubt if you would get it though!!.

In the vets yesterday I saw iams products on the counter. I told the receptionist that they vivisect on dogs and cats and did she know that, she says yes. I will now head back in with leaflets and stickers!!.

I would not touch P&G with a bargepole... NO WAY. I suggest you give your P&G products to a hostel or some charity that would make use of them and that way your concience will be cleared.

i agree--i dont use P&G products and tell everyone that i know about the abuses..agree about iams...too awful for words!!

What is P&G's definition of "reasonable options", I would really like to know.

What annoys me is how P & G state that "We'll only use animal testing when there are no other reasonable options". How come so many other companies can produce new, innovative products without the use of animal testing? Consequently, how can it then be necessary for P & G to still use testing? They are acting like they HAVE to do it. There are millions of ingredients which have been deemed safe for human use, why can't they use some of these? And to think, most of the things they make are just wasteful products people don't really need.
