Stop Animal Habitat Destroying Treekilling Junkmailers
Add Your Name To 4.5 Million Who Say No To Mail Box Violation

Junk mailers of the Direct Marketing Association bulldoze the earth
and smash baby birds to stuff your mailbox with ads for animal flesh and the icons
of materialism

On January 8. 2006, postage went up 2 cents on 1st class mail
and 1 cent on postcards as the US Postal Service continues
to require citizens to subsidize the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
as well as treekilling junk mailers who pay absurdly low rates as they clog landfills and waste the time of US citizens.

Telemarketers have been curtailed and email spam has been curtailed
but junkmailers continue to ignore the public's request
that the rape of our mailboxes stop. Direct mailers continue to
kill trillions of trees, destroy animal habitat, harm our weather patterns,
create drought and flood and all the other opened Pandora's Box
effects of razing Mother Earth.

The US Postal Service has given commercial firms
the power to make the lists that the USPS honors. The fox is
being allowed to guard the chickens. It is not in the interest
of the Direct Marketing Association nor of Advo to honor the
repeated requests of citizens.

The USPS has actually fired mailmen and women who comply
with citizens' request that junk mail not be removed.

Amazingly, when one tries to apply online
at http://dmaconsumers.org
ones application for removal of physical junk mail is not processed
unless credit card number is given!!!!!!!

Flightless fledglings are smashed and squirrels crushed
when ancient and young trees are felled.

TRASH IN Some have suggested that junk mail be collected
and deposited in the corporate offices at 1120 6th Ave, 1111 19th St.,
and on West Service Rd in Hartford, as well as at
the national and local postmasters' offices.
Others say that that paper probably would not be recycled.

We were told by Mr Greco's assistant on the 10th of January
that it takes several MONTHS to process these requests,
because 60 to 90,000 people a month request to be off
of mailing lists. There are 4.5 million total, she said. She said
that the credit card number is requested for 'security reasons'.
(The data mining commercial mailing companies are requesting
your credit card number for 'security reasons'!!!!!)

You do have the option if you do not submit to their
outrageous request... of sending a postcard. We suggest a certified
letter... with a copy to the attorney general of your state.

I agree that junk mail is extremely wasteful, but where's your proof of the above statement?

I friggin' hate junk mail. Here's something I wrote up a while ago, I'm sure I left out some things, but it's pretty accurate for the most part:

ONE PIECE OF JUNK MAIL-----
A tree gets cut down.
Pay the guy to cut it down.
Pollute the air with the chain saw.
Pay the men to put the tree on the truck.
Pay for the truck to haul the tree.
Pay the guy to drive the truck.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the truck.

The tree gets taken to a plant for pulping.
Pay the guy to drive the truck.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the truck.
Pay the guys to work there.
Pollute the air to process the tree.
Energy gets used at the plant to process the tree.

Take the pulp to a paper processing plant.
Pay the guy to drive the truck.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the truck.
Pay the guys to work at the plant.
Pollute the air to process the pulp into paper.
Energy gets used at the plant to process the pulp.

Drive the truck to a printing plant with the paper on it.
Pay the guy to drive the truck.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the truck.
Pay the guys to work at the plant.
Pollute the air to print the paper.
Energy gets used at the plant to print the paper.

A Designer(s) is paid to create the pages for the flyers/junk mail.
The designer has to drive a car to the job, which pollutes the air, not to mention
the other people associated with getting the flyer/junk mail created.
The office the flyer is designed in uses energy.

The printed junk mail gets driven to a mail distribution place.
Pay the guy to drive the truck.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the truck.
Pay the guys who work at the mail distribution place.
The people at the distribution place drive there seperately.
Energy gets used at the mail distribution place.

The Post Office must sort the junk mail into small bundles for the carriers to deliver.
Pay the workers to sort the junk mail.
Energy gets used at the Post Office.

The Post Office then distributes the junk mail by Postal carrier.
Pay the Postal carrier to deliver the junk mail.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the delivery truck.

You must then sort your own mail, by keeping what's important and throwing out the rest (JUNK MAIL).

If you put it in the garbage:
The garbage man must be paid to pick up your garbage.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the truck.
Pay the guy to drive the truck to the landfill.

If you recycle your junk mail:
Pay the guys to pick up your recycling.
Pay the guy to drive the truck.
Use the Gas and Pollute the air with the truck.
Pay the guys at the recycling plant to process your junk mail.
Energy gets used to process the junk mail so it can be re-used as future paper (possibly for another piece of junk mail), or thrown in the landfill because it has no demand for use (see "If you put it in the garbage" above).

Did I forget anything?

It takes a little effort, and it is not a big protest, but it is an active thing to do. Take the junk mail from one junk mailer and put it in the prepaid envelope of another junk mailer and mail it to each other. Add on the front Attn: CEO. It will cost them twice the postage and not be a total waste of the precious trees.

Everyone would be paying a lot more for postage if it wasn't for junkmail.

How so?

How so?

Volume. Good luck trying to find a private company willing to ship an envelope 4000 miles across the country and hand deliver it to someone's door for only $0.39.

Often when you get ads, there is a card that comes with it with the name of the distributor. You can contact them to get off lists. Also, one should look over those privacy policies you get with various accounts you have. They tell you how to keep from selling your name to other companies. Additionally, if you call all your credit cards and ask them not to call with solicitations, you will stop getting those calls for extra services for your card.

www.junkbusters.com (http://www.junkbusters.com/)
There are more if you search in web directories.
Also- when donating to charity, write "do not share my personal information" on your check, membership, etc.

After following the suggestions in the links above, I have been freed from 99% of my junk mail.

I keep seeing suggestions like this on VB. But from what I have read, pre-paid evelopes go to departments that are totally separate from the departments that put you on these lists. So sending back the junk mail really does you no good. because no one in the receiving departments has any control over the lists.

Agreed. They will probably not take you off the list, and it will result in more work for the postal service as well as extra costs for the company, which we will probably all end up paying for. It's probably easier to just get your name off the lists.
