I've been eating coconut oil lately and my hair has never looked better. I don't put it on my hair, I just eat it. Wow, it really has made a difference.
I like Merry Hempsters lip balm a lot too... the tangerine is awesome!
In terms of other beauty stuff... I like Clinique foundation, Jane blushes, Mary Kay mascara, and a variety of other stuff.

I thought coconut oil was really bad for you?
Coconut oil is a saturated fat, isn't it? Sticks to the arteries?
I like Kiss My Face olive oil lotion, but I don't eat it. I do eat olive oil, however. :)

It's so sad to read this thread & see veg*ns praising products from companies that use slaughterhouse by-products & test on animals (or are ambiguous about whether they do or don't).
There are MANY alternatives to brands like Dove & Clinique. For haircare far superior to Dove, try Giovanni. Clinique is a cocktail of petrochemicals & slaughterhouse by-products- read the label.
The best idea: if you don't even know what an ingredient is, look it up. If it's still unclear, it's probably bad for you.

Well, Clinique products are not tested on animals at least. In fact, none of Estee Lauder's company's products are.
The Body Shop products are my absolute favorite.
Tea Tree Oil foaming face wash has helped my skin so much.

i researched the company that produces dove and contacted the company about my shampoo.. it's not tested. i know i'm being a bad vegan by using "drug store brands", but it's the only shampoo i can afford as a college kid that won't kill my hair.

Ditto. Not all of us have the funds to buy anything but the cheapest. Besides, I still believe it is important to support companies that offer products that aren't tested on animals, even if they offer others that are. If you want more vegan products and non-animal tested products readily available at affordable prices you have to buy them to increase the demand.

Face/lips: Alba Organic pineapple & coconut cream lip balm... mmm... Queen Helene Cocoa butter facial scrub and Mint Julep Masque. Alba Organics Pineapple Enzyme facial wash. JASONs Apricot Scrubble.
Hair: Trader Joe's NourishSpa shampoo & conditioner. Giovanni Vitapro Fusion leave-in. Beyond the Zone Busted hemp oil deep conditioner (contains some yucky chemically stuff, so I only get it about every 6 months or so.. works really well, though!)
Body/skin: Coconut or green tea bar soap from TJs, Pure & Basic Banana Vanilla body wash & lotion, Cococare 100% cocoa butter stick
Wow, I am such a product miser. I know there are lots more I am forgetting to mention and these are just the things that stand out in my mind at the moment!

If you want more vegan products and non-animal tested products readily available at affordable prices you have to buy them to increase the demand.
It is up to consumers like us to help bring those prices down by supporting ethical veg*n companies. In the 15 years I've been following the natural health & beauty industry I have seen the development & marketing of many new products, of ever-improving quality & lower prices. Mass-market natural brands like Kiss My Face and Alba Botanica and Burt's Bees are bringing veg*n, natural products into ready accessibility.
Now the onus is on the consumers to support this admirable move by these companies, which save millions of animals' lives with their veg*n formulas and no-testing rule, & prevent many health problems in humans with their largely non-chemical formulas.
I will not buy toiletries made from waste products of the petrochemical & slaughterhouse industries, no matter how cheap they are or how poor I am. These products hurt you, animals & the environment, even if they aren't tested.
Companies like Dove, Oil of Olay & the high-end stuff like Clinique never incorporate good ingredients in any meaningful way in their products. They will put a few drops of something like CoQ-10 in a base made of waste products & then sell it as a "CoQ-10 Cream".
If you are poor & want veg*n products, look for brands like Earth Science, Kiss My Face, Alba Botanica & Avalon Organics, which are moderately priced & have frequent discounts. Remember, you don't need to use very much of a high quality product to get benefits.
If we, the actual dietary veg*ns, don't follow through on our ethical beliefs by VOTING WITH OUR MONEY & supporting makers of veg*n, ethical beauty products, we will be responsible for the deaths of animals that are inevitable when the mainstream, cruel beauty industry dominates.

Ooooh, in that case, may I suggest signing up for the Mambo Sprouts Mailer (http://www.mambosprouts.com/#)? I love it, I don't even remember signing up for it, I think I just filled out something to get a free Luna bar in the mail one day, and now they send me a generous little book of really good coupons in the mail every 2 months or so. You get the newsletter in the email every few weeks or so and sometimes there are printable coupons on the website and such. Good discounts, too.. definitely worth it. Just got my envelope yesterday.. looks like I'll be trying out the KMF shampoo and treating myself to a new Pure & Basic lotion after all.

None of those products you mentioned Organica are availble in the UK.
You are being quite judgmental. It's great that you can afford product X no matter how poor you are. It isn't the same case for everyone.
Besides, I wasn't commenting on the efficacy or quality of products like clinique's. I was merely stating that they did NOT TEST ON ANIMALS.

It's not that easy for everyone. There's no need to attack anyone (especially on this board) for their personal choices, which aren't always simple. Some people need time to change their lifestyles and the different aspects of their life. It doesn't happen overnight, so let people change at their own pace. Maybe people want to get used to their diet and have that down first, and then move on to other areas, such as beauty/health products.
Also, not everyone has access to vegan, cruelty-free, or even natural products. Choice, more often than not, is a LUXURY. It's great to be able to CHOOSE to be vegetarian or vegan, or buy vegan products. Not everyone has a health food store where they live, not everyone can afford even moderately priced brands all the time, as long as people are doing something and are trying, that's what counts. It's not always all or nothing.

I love the hemp hand protector from the Body Shop! I have rough, dry and sometimes cracked hands and it is the only thing that moisturizes and never stings. Good for feet too.
I just bought Giovanni's Smooth as Silk, Shampoo and Conditioner. Can't wait to give it a try.
I also love the Body Shop - I have one of those cards that I get 10% off, cuz I go there so often, hehe.
As for the Giovanni Silk stuff, I found the tiny trial sizes of those and of the 50:50 formula, and found the 50:50 to be more nourshing. Regardless, I hope that it works wonders for your hair as it has for mine. :) Let us know how it goes!!

Oh, a question. I've been using a trial size of Burts Bee's Carrot Complexion soap, which has done well for me - but I can't afford to shell out the $15 for a bar of soap. Most of the other stuff, like Alba and such just iriate my skin - do you think a pure vegetable glycerin soap might be able to do the trick, and if so, should I have any concerns when buying it at a Natural Health Food store (Of course, I'll talk with the people there about my skin and health concerns, but thoughts and opinions much appreciated). Unless someone knows of a coupon for it??
