Toni the Elephant, known to thousands of visitors to the Nay Aug Park Zoo in Scranton for years, has died. According to the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington D.C., Toni had to be euthanized Wednesday morning because of failing health. She was 40 years old.
It may be months before zoo officials know exactly what caused the elephant's physical decline.

I remember hearing that elephants don't live as long in captivity as they would in the wild.
