View Full Version : Black under the eyes

Hey guys,

Was just wondering if anyone could explain the whole reasoning behind getting black underneath the eyes. I have looked it up on the net and haven't found an answer, just a post from a woman who said that once her children started eating meat again, the black under the eyes went away.
Anyone else experience this or know how to get rid of it?

Thanks
James

Are you anaemic?. Check the lower lids of your eyes, they should be a healthy dark pink colour. Is your gums nice and pink?. These can be signs of anaemia.
Are ou sleeping well, lack of sleep can cause dark circles around the eyes.
I would get a health check from a doc,.?.

I have had a health check and I am totally fine...not aenemic at all.
It's not actually right under the eyes, more like in that 'T-Zone' area.
Like I said, i read a post where a woman was saying that this problem showed up with her kids once they stopped eating meat, but disappeared once she got them back onto it.
So I was wondering if there was a way to combat it without resorting to eating meat again.....

I really have no idea what you are talking about... I have dark circles under my eyes, but that comes from being VERY fair skinned, and its getting a bit worse as I'm getting a bit older... I'm quite sure that its nothing that you need to eat MEAT for to cure. You might have a nutritional deficiency of some sort.... have you been vegetarian for a long time? If you just recently became veg, I'd be hard pressed to believe its from your diet.... have you lost a lot of weight recently? Do you drink a lot of caffeine? Or are you suffering from allergies or nasal congestion? That's a common cause.

here's what I found from a search on darkness under the eyes:

I've heard it can be caused by dehydration. Maybe try drinking more water?

Sometime I notice my kids' faces don't look quite right, lacking "vigor" of the skin, if that makes sense. When that happens, I make sure we are getting enough time outdoors. Sometimes I think we are simply lacking fresh air, sunshine, and exercise outdoors.

I definitely get a bad look around the eyes if I don't sleep well. But as I enter my 40s, I'm not tired at nighttime.

Some people are just naturally dark under the eyes. My dark circles date from when I had glandular fever in my teens. I remember Greta Saachi, the actress, complaining that she suffers with dark circles. It is less obvious in the summer, when you have a tan. Sometimes I look like I have been in a fight! Being female, I can cover them up a bit. My advice would be to drink plenty of water, get lots of sleep and assuming you have had already seen your doctor, don't worry about it.

in relation to that about dehydration, I heard once it is to do with the kidneys and what state of health they're in

I have the same problem. Mine come from being so fare skinned. I've always had dark circles under my eyes, even when I ate meat. It is worse when I'm tired though. Its just annoying because people are always asking me whats wrong, and am I sleeping enough, and am I sick and i'm just like "No, I just look like this." I wish people would just mind their own business.

I have always had dark circles... no matter how awake I am, no matter how well I'm eating, no matter... certainly it's worse when I am tired, but it's always there.

And me. So does my mum, guess it's hereditary.

A good consealer can make a huge difference. I really like the Stila ones that are in a little pot. Under-eye creams can make a tiny difference, I think they help with circulation or something.

All the world's a stage...

“All the worlds a stage
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances
And one man in his time plays many parts
His acts being seven ages.”

I have the same problem. I am very fair skinned as well and everyone is like "are you feeling ok?" "You don't look so good."

Gee thanks but I look like this all the time. People don't realize how rude they can be.

Lack of sleep can make mine worse as well.

Same here. I've always been naturally pale, except when I used to spend hours baking in the sun, and I've always had dark circles. It can be genetic and it can also be related to allergies, and since I'm mildly allergic to more things that I can keep track of, I figure that might be part of it. Omnis that comment on it just can't comprehend the fact that I had dark circles in my pre-veg days, though.

I can't comment on half of one's daily calories coming from Mountain Dew. :sealed:
