I'm new to Vegetarianism, and I was wondering how people feel about olive oil cooking spray. This is the best way I have tried tofu, but I'm not sure if this is bad for you health wise. Not really frying or sauteeing is it? Just wondering if it's bad for you because it's tasty!

Olive oil is one of the best oils you can fry with, actually because it does not oxidize easily and create trans-fats. If you must fry, using an olive spray is one of the best ways to go. (Healthier than how I cook sometimes.)
The Mediterranean diet, which includes fairly large amounts of olive oil, is considered one of the healthiest diets. I love olive oil - I'm even trying to grow olive trees (most of them died :( )

Using olive oil can actually be beneficial to your heath. Check this out...

That's just a few of the piles of links about the benefits. Obviously, I don't recommend drinking the stuff... but cooking with it in moderation can be good for you.
All of the above being true ...
Buy one of the atomizer pump bottles from a place like Williams Sonoma or Bed Bath and Beyond and spray your own olive oil. A lot of packaged cooking sprays are filled with propllants and other nasty chemicals that you probably don't want in your food.

I had a roommate that was trying to put on weight. So everyday he would take a shot of flax seed oil. He thought it tasted awful so he started chasing it with olive oil. So he was drinking the stuff. I don't think it helped him put on weight though.

That wouldn't actually add a huge number of cals to his day, certainly not enough to gain if he wasn't doing anything else (I needed to gain weight and went through a phase of stirring olive oil into my porridge - tasted foul and didn't help!)

A little bit of olive oil spray in your cooking is not going to add significant calories to your food. Even so, the fats in olive oil are good for you, and you shouldn't cut all fat out of your diet, you need to get your essential fatty acids in every day for good blood chemistry and brain function.

:surprised Wow, and I thought only I knew people weird enough to drink oil... hence the reason for my comment. :D I would think the feeling of oil going down your throat would be bad enough. :stinkeye:
