View Full Version : My body doesn't seem to appreciate oil.

I try to incorporate good fat into my diet. This consists of mainly olive and canola oils, nuts, flax, and the little bit of fat that comes in soy, grains, and beans. I eat very good food and don't consume convenience foods. But, I've noticed that when I eat something with fat, it just makes my stomach feel... greasy. Sometimes it feels like it's just stuck in my throat or something. It's almost as though I'm not digesting it.

Today I had a salad for lunch with an oil based dressing as well as a bean dip that had some oil in it. About an hour later it still felt like it was just sitting in my stomach, and not in the I'm-full-from-my-meal kind of way, but more like I-have-food-in-my-stomach-with-oil-sitting-on-top-of-it way.

I know I'm not eating too much fat; in fact, I usually have a hard time getting enough fat in my diet. Does anyone else ever feel like this when they eat fats and oils? Or, do you know what is causing it? Is this something that is always the case with fat and I have to live with it forever?!

Hmmm... I'm no doctor, but I would think that if you weren't digesting oils/fats you'd know it... as in, you'd have a leaky orange bumhole (sorry!). I don't know what the feeling could be, I mean, I guess I feel it to a certain degree it just never bothered me enough to care about it. As long as it's not causing you pain or serious discomfort, I wouldn't worry too much about it since it sounds like you have a great diet. I would maybe just mention it in passing at your next physical. Well, good luck and I hope others have some more helpful answers for you.

Perhaps you could try peanut buuter and avacados for fats (maybe not together). They might sit better on your stomach.

Do you still have your gallbladder? Most people who have had their gallbladder removed also have trouble digesting fats.
For a temporary fix you could take a plant enzyme supplement that is high in Lipase, which helps the body break down fats, but you should probably run your problem by your doctor too, just in case.

yeah i think there is such thing as a "lipase" pill which should help...

also are you eating fats with starches? maybe that would help...?
