That's really sad. Just goes to show that if enough people believe something (whether it's true or not), it becomes fact. Kind of like people in North America assuming wolves are vicious people/livestock attackers.

As an Australian, I'd like to add something. Most Australians do not support culling of dingoes, nor do we believe that the dingo is a vicious animal. When the little boy was killed on Fraser Island by a dingo most Australians were outraged by the knee jerk cull. The problem was that the dingoes were becoming used to seeing humans as a source of food (as tourists feed the dingoes). Now, not that long ago dingoes and other animals were poisoned indiscriminately, but there is no hate campaign against the dingo in this day and age... there is far less emotion attached to the dingo than the wolf.

I too, as an Australian, would like to say that the atmosphere this letter gives out is wrong. I'm sure that there are people who would shoot dingo’s on site, but I, and most people I know, would not go near (or do anything to) them.

That’s when Fraser Island comes in. Tourists discard rubbish (or feed them out right) and this attracts them to the area. so if was a bomb waiting to go off.

of course, it is very easy to say all this now, afterward. . .
