Kaufman the Humane Choice
to Succeed Sanders in Assembly
New York, January 16 – The League of Humane Voters of New York City (LOHV-NYC) today announced that it is endorsing Steve Kaufman for the east side Assembly seat left vacant by Steve Sanders. Governor Pataki is expected to schedule a Special Election for this and other vacant Assembly seats in mid-February.
“Steve has pledged to support a variety of humane issues in Albany, from banning the cruel force feeding of ducks for foie gras to increasing the amount of money spent on humane education,” said Maryanne Byington, who has lived on the lower east side for more than 20 years and serves as the League’s Treasurer, adding “Steve Kaufman is clearly the humane choice for the 74th Assembly District.”
Upon learning of the endorsement, Mr. Kaufman issued the following statement: “I am honored and thrilled to receive the endorsement of the League of Humane Voters of New York City. I look forward to working with LOHV-NYC and other animal protection groups to help build a more humane and compassionate society.”
For more than 20 years, Mr. Kaufman served as the Chief of Staff to former Assembly Member Steve Sanders. Kaufman has also received Sanders’ endorsement.
