My orange cat Tina likes to walk with me when I walk the dogs. She trails behind and if we go too far she meows for us to wait for her.
Today I was walking the dogs and Tina was sitting in someone's yard behind me. I crossed the road to go to my street, and just as I crossed a slow moving car passed. my cat was far from the road, so I didn't expect a problem.
Then I heard brakes slamming, and saw her running out of the road, into the bushes. I was very relieved and I started calling her, but when she didn't come, I started getting really scared.:worried: I ran home to call my mom, but luckily Tina came running just as we were going to look for her. She was fine, just a bit shocked I think
I'm so glad the car was going slowly. I'll definately be more careful next time.
I'm glad Tina's okay. :)
Maybe you should consider getting a cat harness for her and using a leash? I haven't tried it with my boys because they are strictly indoor cats, so I don't know how hard it would be for her to get used to it, but it might help her stay safer when she accompanies you on your walks with the dogs.
that was a close one! my cat, mini got ran over recently, and it wasn't pretty :( mini follows me when i walk the dog too but i shoo him away so he doesn't get lost.
really glad your cat is ok :)

Wow, that must have been scary! My Sandy (dog) died years back after being ran over (she had never left our property before, it was the first time and it was only like 10 feet off the property!) Now I've promised Sandy that I would never let it happen to any other dogs or cats I adopt. I had one cat in my life. He was an adult and it only took me two days to get him comfortable with walking on a leash. I think it's definately a good idea to start using a harness and leash. I think they should be cared for carefully like children. Both children and non-human animals don't understand exactly how roads work, so I think it's very dangerous for them to be running loose like that. But at least you were with your cat instead of your cat being completely unsupervised.

I would really like to walk my cat on a leash, but she is already an adult.
How did you train your cat? I've tried before, but she refused to walk.
Any tips would be appreciated!

I didn't "train" him. I encouraged him to ignore the leash and enjoy the walk. When he refused at first I didn't really force him. I had patience and waited for him to be ready to walk. One of those retractable leashes is best for animals (shortened when your by the road)
