I've tried Wild Garden's traditional hummus and was not pleased.
Is it even possible to get that Greek restaurant quality hummus in a store bought product?

President's Choice Organics, but it's only in Canada.
Why not make your own? All you need is a blender, lemon, garlic, chickpeas & tahini.

Tribe Hummus hands down in my book... Comes in flavors of Dill, Scallion, Roasted Red Pepper and Classic (and a few others I think). It's God's gift to every man, woman and child! :pibo: :guitar: :hump:

I agree, making your own is the best and so easy!
I think any kind of store bought is great in the red pepper flavor.

I agree with Hummus! Tribe (formerly known as Tribe of Two Sheiks) is only grocery store hummus I've found that's worth having. I only get the roasted garlic flavor. :smitten:

Holyland. It's locally made where I am, I think.

I also like the Fantastic Foods hummus mix that you just add water and olive oil to. :)

I like Costco brand the best, it's a shame that it only comes in giant tubs.

If you have a food processor hummus is extremely easy to make. This is the recipe I use...
· 1 can (16 oz) garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
· 1 tbsp olive oil
· 2 tbsp tahini
· 4 tbsp lemon juice
· 2 cloves garlic, crushed
· 1 tsp cumin
· 1 tsp tamari
Drain garbanzo beans, saving liquid. Place the garbanzo beans, 3 tbsp liquid, and other ingredients into food processor and blend until smooth.
Sprinkle paprika on top (optional). Refrigerate several hours to overnight.

I like Cedar's brand pretty well, but I still prefer to make my own (with lots and lots of tahini). :)

Make your own, make your own! I'm all about that. I don't know how you people AFFORD store-bought hummus!! I'd blow my entire grocery budget with the way we go thru it in this house!!
I swear, it has to be the easiest recipe in the world, you can even just use a fork and mash everything together if you don't have a blender.
I basically use my own made-up recipe similar to Michael's and throw in whatever other goodies I have....
Last week I experimented at Froggy's and made it with roasted green chiles (It's New Mexico, what would you expect!?!) ... it was :lick: soooo yummy but could have used a bit more salt in my opinion...

Blasphemy!! You cannot add soy sauce to hummus!!
I tried Wil garden once. It was awful. Now I make my own, but before I was all about the Whole Foods deli one. If you don't have a WF, I'd suggest Cedar's or Basha. I had Tribe once and it was :guitar: ;) :hump: , but they don't sell it everywhere.

when i am living home with the rents, homemade cant be beat at all. but, being a student makes it hard for me to do homemade stuff sometimes soooo tribe and cedars are both good. cedar's black olive hummus was pretty awesome the other nite me and my friend ate almost all of it i had to wrestle it out of his hands before he finished it all! hand over the hummus and no one gets hurt!

I took some Tribe Roasted Garlic hummus to a party once, and this Egyptian girl who was used to having the real thing said, "Mmm... you got this from the grocery store??" She said it was the best grocery store hummus she'd ever ever eaten.

Sabra is good, but not exactly healthy. Trader Joe's are the freshest you can get without making your own.
...I'm not a big fan of Tribe or Cedar's.

I used to buy Athenos Roasted red pepper, but now I just make my own, it's so much better (and easy)!
I use a can of garbanzo beans, some chopped onion, chopped garlic, chopped red pepper, tomatoes, about a tsp of olive oil, lemon juice, some cumin, garlic, pepper, sea salt, and red pepper flakes. I also like to add sundried tomatoes and black olives sometimes, it's really good. Put it all together in a food processor and blend. I don't have a food processor, so I put it all in a big cup, microwave it to soften it up and mix it together with a hand blender.

Don't dis the Tribe, or I'll have to whip you!:whip: I'll admit it's not as creamy as some, but I think it's got great flavor.

Sabra. It's the creamiest. Athenos will do in a pinch. I'm not a fan of Tribe.

I typically only but Tribe's 40 Spice Hummus, so very good it is.

...the beans taste old. Strong flavor to mask old beans.
