Oh, I also have a question. Do any of the runners here belong to a running club or running group? I'm thinking of doing something like that once a week for my slowly increasing long runs.
Another thing: When I was running I saw a boycott KFC poster. First time I've ever seen something like that posted around my city!

Great run, Captain!
broccoli, I personally don't belong to a running club but I know others here on VB do. The group in my area, however, is mostly people decades older than me. I'm not saying they're old at all, because they're not, it's just that joining them might be a little odd due to such an age gap. But I will say that they seem like very happy people! I see them all the time while I'm running and they're very friendly. I think a group would be great for those long runs!
5 mile run today. It felt really really really good :)

I pace lead a group with my running club. I love being apart of it. We meet every Sunday morning for our long runs.
We train for the LA marathon (in march) but since meeting so many people we meet year round for other races too.
As Anna mentioned, many of the people in the club are older than me. I would say that 95% of the club is older than me in fact. I don't mind though because it is a group of really nice people.
You will be amazed at how fast a 3 or 4 hour run goes by when you are spending the whole time babbling to other runners.
Great run to you to Anna. :)

Thanks for the replies! This group of people has a 20 and under Saturday that I am thinking about going to when I have a free Saturday.
Good job annabanana! Did you get my pm?

1 hr. slow jog, 40 min. walk (was trying to find my way around Seattle...)
I don't belong to any running group, but that's because I RARELY run more than 30ish minutes at a time. Everything I do is in increments.

Today I walked, probably a little more than 2 miles.

broccoli, yes, I did get your PM but I didn't really have anything to say back, except that it was certainly a weird coincidence.
Anyway. 6 mile run today, hopefully some speed stuff tomorrow.

18.3 mile run today. :hamster:
How do you do that? Do you stop and start again? Or do you vary your pace? I am a beginning runner. Today I did 3 miles on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the rowing machine, while I was waiting for a treadmill.

30 min. run, arm work, hell-has-risen-right-beneath-our-pool water polo practice. (2 hr.)
ARG. I HATE the 14 and under coach. (I'm 14, but in the 16/18 and unders because of my birthday) I'm not a very fast swimmer (in...erm... lane three... (the lanes go slowest to fastest starting w/ 1) and she had the ENTIRE team doing 100's (4 lengths) on the 120. (you have a minute and 20 seconds to do the 100)
My sprint time off the blocks, during swim team, is 1:07 :wall: off the wall during practice is about 1:15.
Plus, this coach is from Australia, so her drills are COMPLETELY different than ours. Then she gets mad when we don't understand and we have to do butterfly.
Then...yipee...we had ANOTHER talk w/ the coach. this was about how we were "b*tching and moaning" how the sub. coach made us swim like we were being chased by sharks and that we need to be able to do 10 100s on the 130.
I can do six/seven. :hamster:

You just kind of build your way up to it. I've been running for awhile now and the shortest long run (we do a long run once a week) we do at any given time during the year is 10 miles. This helps us keep a good base for whenever we decide we want to run anything special.
We try to keep the pace the same for the most part. Usually there are miles that are faster than others but that is usually when we aren't paying attention because we are talking to each other too much. We try to go out slower and then if we have energy left in us we will pick up speed towards the end.
We do take walk breaks. The frequency depends on the distance we run. Some people just take breaks when they reach water stops, some people never take walk breaks, some walk a minute for every mile they run, it just really depends on what works for you.

Once again I find myself thinking that you are in a tough sport.
There is nothing like swimming to make you feel tired. :D

Today it was pouring so I ran at a gym for about an hour and 50 minutes. I have no clue how many miles I went, but as I was walking out the door a nice lady told me I looked like a hamster on the track. :p I got a free use of the track in a race goody bag and think I might sign up for the track in case it's raining on a run day. It's a nice gym and only 40.00 to use it 6 times a year.

I guess you're a hamster in more than one way, broccoli  :hamster: I keep thinking we live in the same area because the weather is almost always the same. It definitely poured rain here, too. Ran 6 miles in it (well, it started raining halfway through), with some speed intervals - about 1/4 to 1/2 mile intervals sporadically.
dietcoke, swimmers deserve a lot more credit for their hard work than they often receive! It still sounds like you have a strong work ethic.
Go Hamsters!!! :bobo:

captainswab--yeah, our coach is constantly telling us that if we want to be stupid, go to swim team.
but trust me, if looks could kill, this coach would be desingrating into the ground. A girl started CRYING today, and we were kept in 20 min. late. :( Which may not sound like much, but crossing from Belluveu (spelled soooo wrong) to Mercer Island at 6pm is like a parking lot.
So... 30 min. slow run, 2 hr. 20 min. h20 practice.
and thanks, annabanana. :)

Last night - Body Combat class.
It is sooooooooo hot at the moment. The instructer at the gym was telling everyone to drink lots of water when they got home so we didn't dehydrate. I felt like I sweated off a couple of kilos!

Today I did the cycling class and some weights, but I didn't do abs, and I didn't do as many weights as I'd of liked. I only have so much time, though.

I wanna be a hamster!! :hamster:
So far this week...
monday: 2 hours of tennis
tuesday: 1/2 hour of strength training (crunches, pushups, squats, calf exercises - boy are my arms sore) and 1/2 hour of walking/running.
yet to go:
wednesday: tennis tonight
thursday: strength + running/walking
friday: dunno yet
saturday: strength + running/walking, maybe some tennis too
so far, remi and I are doing a combo of walking/running to get ourselves into shape for a 5k fun run in march. Last week we alternated every 2 blocks (walk 2 blocks, run 2 blocks). This week, we are walking 1 block, running 2 blocks. (for just over a mile). Next week, we walk 1 block, run 3 blocks. etc, until we can run our entire circuit. Then we expand our circuit until we are running the full 5k.

Great job everyone! :bobo:
Today's my "free" day and I feel like I need it! I ran a couple flights of stairs today when I was bored.
dietcoke: The swimmers I know train SO hard. They're all in wonderful shape too. :)
oregonamy: good job with the running! My first 5k was so exciting!

:hi: Amy.
Well, I got my butt up at 4:45am this morning and ran 4 miles.
I always say I'm going to turn into a morning runner (all the long runs are in the morning but i meet a lot of people so those aren't a problem) and then I always press the snooze button. Hopefully I can keep this up for more than one day. :p
