Dear Friend,

I thought you might be interested in this HSUS campaign to
protect horses from slaughter. We don't eat horsemeat but tens
of thousands of American horses are shipped under inhumane
conditions and suffer a terrible fate at one of three
foreign-owned slaughterhouses in the United States. Former show
horses, thoroughbreds, ponies, foals, wild horses, pregnant
mares from the Premarin industry and any other kind of horse you
can imagine are put through this brutal process all so that
their meat can be shipped overseas to foreign markets for diners
in Europe and Asia.

After thousands of Americans spoke out last year, Congress
passed a law with overwhelming majorities in the House and the
Senate prohibiting horse slaughter to continue in 2006. Now, the
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is saying it might find a
way to continue horse slaughter despite Congress's clear
mandate. This is an outrageous act on the part of an agency
whose purpose is to implement laws, not sidestep them. For the
sake of our horses and our democracy, please take a moment to
act to stop the USDA's illegal action. This will all be decided
quickly so please don't delay. Go to this link and take action
now.

I'd just rather send them all back to Europe where they came from. They've damaged thousands of acres of Sage habitat which affects countless native species.

Yeah, not to mention the damage that European strains of domesticated primate have done. Let's ship them back, too.

I'm biting my tongue at a really terrible comment that I don't actually believe, but is SO INVITING, yet so horribly wrong :(

Here is another article along the same line...

Last year, over 120,000 healthy American horses were slaughtered and
they are not old crippled or blind horses. (It is against federal law to
ship a blind or crippled horse). The slaughter industry will not take
old skinny horses. The horses being slaughtered range in age from six
months to thirteen years of age.

Why Are They Being Slaughtered?

American horses are being slaughtered in three foreign owned slaughter
houses in Ilinois and Texas. Their meat is being shipped overseas as a
delicacy for the Italians, French, Japanese and other countries
overseas.

Polls across America show that 74%-90% of people are opposed to horses
being slaughtered.

Currently there are bills in the House (HR 503) and Senate (S 1915)
that would ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption and the
transport of horseflesh or live horses out of the country for the purpose of
slaughter. HR 503 currently has 134 cosponsors.

The Senate version of The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act
(S1915) was introduced on Wednesday 26, of October and currently has 10
cosponsors.

Horse slaughter promotes theft, neglect, abuse and lowers the value of
horses in general.

Tom Durfee and his wife Julia, own and operate The Laughing Horse
Sanctuary a 501(c)3 non-profit equine rescue. They are asking fellow
Americans to help this stop this senseless slaughter of these intelligent and
loving animals.
