based on my knowledge of international political economy, international developement, etc are we to blame coporations profit imperative for the ills we witness in the environment? no matter what the causality, frankly isn't the status of the world far more likely to get worse, before it gets better?

The short-term economic incentive for environmental degradation has existed for thousands of years before modern corporations had even been conceived of.

In short, I would blame people for it more than I would blame corporations. However, it seems like the environmentalist backlash against environmental destruction will at least slow down the destruction. Unfortunately, environmentalism seems to be strongest in the places that are the worst damaged, since they have the least to gain from further destruction, so yeah I'd say things will continue to get worse until there is an economic incentive in undeveloped areas to leave natural resources in place.

Since the citizens support the corporations, ultimately the blame comes down to us, largely those of us in the United States, because we use the largest share of resources of any country. The corporations exist to make money, if we buy their products, we are funding their continued actions.

Absoluteley Ludi.
What a shame most people refuse to act responsibly & stop buying unethically produced, cheaply ("disposably") made products.

Just imagine if we all voted with our money.... we could change the world...

Like the others have said, it goes back to us. Corporations, governments, societies, ect. are all people. And judging by the current state of things, in all honesty I don't think things will ever get better. No matter how many positive gains are made, there's still too much going in the other direction and we've tipped the scale too far off balance :(
