View Full Version : My kitty was put to sleep. :( Photos of what happened

My cat Calvin was amazing. He was one of the nicest cats ever. He would give you hugs and lick you, and stick out his tongue (see pic). He went outside a lot and was really healthy (see more pics). Then all of a sudden he got this huge lump on his hip. We thought it was his bone sticking out, but they took x-rays or something and found out it wasn't, it was just some lump. Later he got more and more lumps, all over his body.
He was sleeping all the time and barely eating. We think it was really hard for him to swallow because there were lumps in his throat. I told my mom she should give him wet food, and after that he was eating some, but he had already lost TONS of weight. You could feel all his bones and he looked awful. Eventually he couldn't even move around much, and about a week before he was put to sleep he had a seizure. Luckily we were all there when it happened and my sister stopped him from accidentally biting his tongue or anything else. Finally we had him put to sleep because there was nothing we could do, it moved so quickly.
Here's the thing: it all happened in a MONTH. He went from being perfectly healthy, to gone. At least he got lots of love before he died. You can see the before and after pictures below. He was young, too.
So...love your animals lots, because you never know when something crazy like this will happen. We used to have five cats at one time, now we only have one left, Athena.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. Did you ever find out what caused the lumps? Poor kitty.

Well my sister thought it was cancer, but we don't actually know.

I'm so sorry. I watched my kitty go downhill rather quickly also. He was lucky he had such good people to look out for him.

I'm really sorry, it must have been heartbreaking!
At least you gave him lots of love before he went, and I'm sure you tried to make him as comfortable as possible.

I am so sorry, looking at those pictures made me feel so sad for you and your kitty.
My kitty almost died once of a urinary tract infection. He got so he would only sleep and he would hardly even move and I took him to an emergency vet in Carytown (Richmond, VA) and at the time I lived in Dinwiddie, VA (right outside of Petersburg, VA) which is 25 minutes away from Carytown. It cost us $400 to save his life.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Tommy. Calvin was a gorgeous kitty, and I hope you can find solace in your happy memories of him.
I'm sorry, Tommy. Something similar happened to our cat Jelly Belly a year ago. No lumps, but one month he was healthy and happy and the next he was gone, we don't know why but he had stopped eating too. It's shocking to go through. I hope you feel better soon.
He sounds like he was a great companion.
Awww. I'm sorry to hear about your cat. :(

My condolences, Tommy. :(
I'm very sorry. My family had a cat with cancer who deteriorated very quickly too. It's horrible to watch. :(
I'm glad you were there for her when she needed you.

Thanks everyone.
I mostly posted this because it was shocking how fast it all happened. Like I said, he went outside a lot, so I actually didn't see him that much anymore. He would come back inside to eat and take a nap, and then go outside again. It was just one of those things where you always expected him to be there. Just another lesson to not take things for granted.

Tommy, I am so so so sorry. :( I can relate. I lost a cat when all of the sudden he had labored breathing. We brought him to an emergency vet and didn't know why but his lungs were filling with fluid. They removed the fluid, while waiting for more tests he died. This was about a week or two. It was heartbreaking.
I am sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry. When my cat died, I had a hole in my heart for a long time - take care.

I'm so sorry you lost him over the holidays. He looked like a very friendly cat. I also lost three of my rats over the holidays to illnesses associated with old age. I'm sure that wherever he is, he's watching down on you and thanking you for allowing him to go peacefully.
