Some monkeys will eat meat, such as baboons. They are actually quite vicious.

I would say if they eat or don't eat meat it mostly can be explained by the environmental conditions in which their species evolved. Their genetic heritage such as their metabolism and abilities to obtain and digest different kinds of food combined with environmental influences drove them to eat certain kinds of food. If their diets were forced to change from what was ideal for their bodies, their bodies may have adapted over time. However, their bodies may not adapt over time if it did not make any difference to their ability to reprodue. For example, humans will probably never adapt to stressors which cause disease late in life, because by that time we get heart disease, etc, we've already passed on our genes.

In the case of primates, some eating habits may be taught from generation to generation and remain a strong social influence even when in conflict with environmental influences. I don't know if this applies to the apes and monkeys, but it is the case with humans. For example, taboos against eating certain foods have caused certain human populations to die out. Social influences would include ethical influences.

Many monkeys and apes eat small amounts of meat. They're naturally omnivores.

From experience I believe that dogs dont have a very strong sense of taste, rather its scent. If they smell something good in a pile of crap or vomit theyre gonna for it.

No, i am from Hong Kong, the cows in countryside will hunt for all things left at rubbish bins(including plastic bags, plastic bottles, etc.) and the food from campsites.

Campers complained the cows come and eat all their food when left unattended. The food include all kinds of meat items.

Maybe it's as simple as "they like the taste". //fiik

I think dogs eat vomit because wolves in the wild can't afford to loose the calories, though there may be some merrit in the "strong smell" argument too.

Because it is not raw meat(no need to hunt and kill),
i guess cows and humans eat cooked meat are based on the same reason too

i am not sure those meat fed to the cows in farms,
are they cooked or raw ?
