Happy new year hamsters! :hamster:

13.5 mile run. I must admit that we met yesterday morning to do this though so we wouldn't have to get up early today. :)

Happy New Year!

I know I'm supposed to run today...I think 12 miles? I don't remember, I just woke up. :)

It was 12 miles I was supposed to run today. I ran it at this state park near me with a lot of running trails. The trail I ran today goes along the edge of a golf course for about a mile. Around mile 5 I got hit on the shoulder with a golf ball. It just came out of the trees and hit me, but I never saw the person who it belonged to.

Today I did a Body Balance class. It was good to do some stretching and get the body moving again after the Christmas laziness.

Great job, everyone! :bobo:

Shadowlee, what is Body Balance? I don't think I've ever heard of that.

Annabanana: Stairs and hills = my enemies. :)

yesterday: 1 hour, 20 minutes running

today: 1 hour, 35 minutes running, 2 hr. water polo practice.

Argg... that was not smart... :( I should've figured out if I had H20 polo before running. :wall:

Shadowlee, what is Body Balance? I don't think I've ever heard of that.

It's a mixture of tai chi, yoga and pilates. Designed by Les Mills - who does a lot of different group exercise classes for gyms.

Today I did Body Pump (weights class). It is so hot at the moment that you can feel it even in an air conditioned gym!

Keep hamstering! :hamster:

45 min. run, 2 hr. water polo...

Our coach was REALLY mad at us today. :( Had a 15 minute talk about how, basically (I'm paraphrasing and editing strong language) how we are all fat, out of shape, bad, can't do certain skills (uh oh... he used me as an example!!!) and that we do not play on a recreational team...

At least I go of Fridays. :)

4 mile run where I almost got ran down by an asshole in a jeep even though I was wearing a headlamp and my dog was wearing a reflective harness. The driver just hit a rabbit instead.

Anna, still going strong!

Broccoli, nice runnin' :D

Nice work shadowlee and dietcoke! :sunny:

:grr: Coaches can be so inconsiderate and condescending, saying things that they probably think are pushes to work harder, though really they're making a direct attack on teammates' self-esteem. In my opinion (I've never been a coach, but I have been a team member) angry talks are useless in producing the desired results. Encouragement and praise, though they take more patience, are often more effective, depending on the audience.

I'm so sorry you had to hear all this nonsense from your coach and be singled out like that. I hope you do know that you yourself are not out of shape (you run and play water polo for hours, for goodness sake!) and I can't say anything about your water polo performance because I've never seen you play ( :p ), but sheesh, with all the practice I bet you are a terrific player :)

Disclaimer: all of the above is entirely my opinion based on experience only, and I don't know dietcoke or her team or her coach or anything...I just recognized that the situation is similar to ones I've been in and I don't want dietcoke totally depressed and crushed by this angry coach! I'm willing to say it's more his/her problem than any member of the team's.

Captain, good thing you and your dog were okay...sad about the rabbit though :( I bet that wasn't the nicest sight to see. At least you and your dog did your job to be visible. Inconsiderate "me-first" "in-your-face" drivers are so scary and unpredictable yet completely out of one's control!

Shadowlee, Body Pump sounds like fun! I think I took a similar class once, it was a blast.

Veggies4Me, I hope your workouts go well :) Hopefully you'll feel refreshed after some (busy) time off.

broccoli, good luck with your half-marathon training. You seem to be doing really well, I admire your consistency with such long runs! :hamster:

Oh, don't worry, this coach is famous for being incredibly "mean" to his players. It's actually kinda funny... this is the third time he's made this speech. So thanks for caring (really!) but don't worry, I won't lose sleep over this.

Oh, okay :) I'm glad there's no permanent damage :D :nana:

Today: 50 minutes on the treadmill of walking/running (I did 6km).

Coaches can be horrible. I remember some controversy a few years ago about claims that some of the Australian Institute of Sport coaches driving their athletes to eating disorders with the demands they made on them! If it makes you feel any better dietcoke, my band conducter can be nearly as mean sometimes. He used to be in the army and I think he forgets that we're not professional musicians! Some people are very driven.

Shadowlee-thanks. :) I also found out why he was so mad. (our only goalie--who was signed up for all the tornements-broke her ankle. plus a ton of kids are dropping out of a Florida international tournement.) We play on a very competetive team, so this was normal. :)

today: 30 min. slow running, 2 hr. practice.

Is is pathetic that I am already counting down to my next school vacation? (31 school days!!!) I LOVE deciding when, where and how to work out. :hamster:

I did a 30 minute run/walk and some upper body weights.

I still need to stretch.

I'm about to go out for a 4 mile fartlek run. So not in the mood, but I'll do it anyway!

bad...bad...practice... *twitches*

Our coaches have decided to "step it up" AGAIN. We did sprints for 30 min. moving ball work for 30 min. countering (basically sprinting up and down the pool while remembering where to go) for 30 min. and shooting for 30 min. Plus, there was only 12 kids, but three had to leave early just because one had a doctors appointment. ("we aren't legal to drive..." WTF???)

arg... I hate it how I go 5 days a week (or at least try) yet am one of the worst, yet some girls only go twice a week but are the best.

So... yeah... 2 hr. practice, 30 min. run.

Another 4 miler for me today.

dietcoke, that sounds like a tough sport you are in there. Running can be frustrating like that too when some people who just decide to run one day can run faster than me.

So true. :(
I had a friend who has gone running maybe twice since XC season ended, but I know she'll be one of the best on the team after maybe a week of practice. Just hang in there everyone! Your probably in better shape, anyway. :)
