I got my Crystal kitty the Pet Mate Fresh Flow fountain for her birthday this last August and she loves it. My vet was very happy when I told him I got it for her because he said most cats don't get enough water. Fountains encourage them to drink a lot more and I've noticed that she does drink more since I got it for her.
It's really quiet, easy to clean and has a small filter that needs to be changed every two to three months. So, if anyone is interested for their fuzzy baby, here's a link to it- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000084F2Q/qid=1136061134/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-6930607-7126219?n=507846&s=home-garden&v=glance

My cats have a fountain (not this brand, I have the Drinkwell), and they do drink a lot more. I suspect the Drinkwell may be easier for some cats to drink from, since the water comes out in a free-flowing stream like a human drinking fountain rather than going down a slide. Do your cats drink from the slide area or from the pool at the bottom?
She drinks from the slide and the pool. I almost got the Drinkwell brand, but I saw quite a few reviews on it that said it was kind of loud. Is that true with yours?

Do your cats play with the water? I'd love to get one for my babies, but my female loves to bat at flowing water with her paw. She's even been known to do so with her regular water in a bowl.
Is the flow of the water like that of a faucet or does it flow down the ramp?

No, I've never noticed it to be loud unless it's running low on water, in which case the noise is a good warning to add water befroe it runs dry. In fact, if the normal sound of the stream going into the pool bothers you, you can adjust the flow so it it makes virtually no noise.

Mine doesn't play with the water at all. The flow in the one I have flows down the ramp, but the one Tesseract has flows like a faucet. Here's a link to the one she has- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00068B8ES/qid=1136129857/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-6930607-7126219?n=507846&s=home-garden&v=glance
Our vet said that cats like to drink flowing water when it's available because they know (at an instictive level) that flowing water is less likely to harbor the dangerous bugs that grow in standing water. We got a fountain for our kitties that's really quiet, and we are putting kitty-floride in it to help thier teeth. Our older cat needs some serious cleaning...brush your cat's teeth to avoid major vet bills. Make sure you only use toothpaste designed for cats. Human toothpaste can be toxic for them.
