It looks like Campbell's and Starbucks both sponser rodeo events, which, besides sometimes proving fatal to the animals, often leaves them with severe internal injuries. Here's a link for more information:

I don't buy from or subscribe to purchase from either 2 of these companies and its no surprise to me that Starbucks especially lavishes money on something unscrupulous (to put mildly) like sponsoring :grr:
Campbells, pfft, don't need them for my food, don't need starbucks for my kawfee.

This dosen't surprise me about Starbucks. Starbucks has done stupid things in the past. I heard about how stupid Starbucks was on 9/11. Some ambulance workers needed to get water for the victims, so they went to a local Starbucks. Starbucks made the workers pay 130$ for 3 cases of water. The worst part was when the ambulance company confronted Starbucks. Starbucks didn't care!!!!! For more information, http://www.snopes.com/rumors/starbuck.htm has good stuff.

clearly from what megveggie says, you only have to rhymme sucks with starbucks and you get all you need to know right there, in perfect example megveggie, over what you say about their 9/11 charge of water extortion. Dear dear.

I don't BUY from starbucks, but my good friend works there and hooks me up with free coffee all the time. Is that still bad? I'm not exactly paying for the bags of coffee, and as soon as she stops working there (which will be in a few months) I don't plan on purchasing any from them. I mean, the coffee isn't all that great anyway, but I'm never one to turn down free stuff.

Oops. I was obsessed with Starbucks for the past while until I realized that they are evil. Now I have this giftcard for that place that I need to use up. So I will use it up, and from now on I'll go to Second Cup instead. I mostly just liked Starbucks because of the giftcards. I can't control my spending at places like that (i'm a coffee freak) unless I have specific card with a limit on it.

I'll probably let Starbucks know I don't appriciate that add, but the add doesn't say that Starbucks is actually sponsoring (ie giving money to) the rodeo. Looks to me like they let Chyenne Frontier Days pay them to advertize.

Here's the response I got:

Dear Ms. Lamp,

Thank you for contacting Starbucks Coffee Company.

At Starbucks, we are deeply committed to living by our six Guiding Principles, which include Contributing Positively to our Communities and Environment. One of the ways we give back is by supporting activities that are important to the communities we serve.

As a result, a significant portion of Starbucks marketing efforts are locally driven and focus on connecting with the community through sponsorships, events and community giving programs. In some instances, Starbucks could be involved with an event that may be relevant to one community, but not to another.

The Cheyenne Frontier Days is a cultural event in Cheyenne, Wyoming that features parades, amusement rides, a rodeo and other activities. As a member of the community, Starbucks showed its support for the event by purchasing at $250 advertisement in a Cheyenne Frontier Days brochure. The ad invited festival attendees to enjoy a Starbucks beverage at our local store before or after the event. Starbucks has no affiliations with rodeos.

To learn more about how Starbucks supports our global community, please see our Corporate Social Responsibility Report at www.starbucks.com/csrannualreport.

Sincerely,

James S.

sigh.

When the ambulance workers called the company to inquire about the possibility of having been overcharged, they were told what they had described couldn't have happened, so thank you and good-bye.

Who did they contact? The employee? The local store? The division manager? The customer service hotline? Who knows. "The company" is completely vague.

Their letter to the president of Starbucks detailing the event went unanswered.

If you want a customer service issue resolved, will writing to the president of a multinational organization cut it? This guy probably has half a dozen assistants; I doubt the letter even got to him. Bottom line: contact the customer service department, not the president.

Calls from a Seattle journalist to Howard Schultz (Starbucks chairman and chief global strategist) and Orin Smith (president and CEO) weren't returned. (Only after that journalist's piece about the $130 water ran on 25 September 2001 did Smith meet with that newsman.)

see above.

Sounds like they went about it all wrong. Contact the store manager, then the division manager, then the regional manager, then the customer service department, etc...

that snopes piece sounds like someone has an issue with starbucks regardless.

note: I don't like starbucks coffee but I hate it when people criticize a business for not addressing their issue, when they didn't use common sense or critical thought to resolve the problem properly.

Starbucks doesn't support their local communites they support their stock holders, and good PR (for the rodeo people at least) supports business. I hate bull dung PR responses.

Just when I found a good vegetarian soup  But, oh well. I can make my own just by throwing together vegetable broth or tomato soup and some veggies.
