View Full Version : Breed Banning: In search of cities.
I'm looking for list of cities with dog breed ban laws. Any idea where I can find a good one? I've been searching, but not finding much.

I used to have a link for that type of information but my old hard drive crashed and I lost it; you could try searching for pit bull sites anyone that is really into the breed will have info about that type of info.

I did a quick search, you could try and contact these people:

this one might help more:

This list tells you which cities have adopted BSL, but it doesn't tell you anything about the legislation: http://www.staffordmall.com/bsl.htm

Jinga-
What type of dogs do you have? I know first hand it can be rough and what the worst cities are. I have 2 pitbulls.
Thanks for the links all.
Jade, Addie is a mix. I've been told she resembles a pit bull/ staffordshire terrier (or something like that). I've been looking to buy a house, and after my recent problem at a local kennel, I just want to make sure that none of the places I'm looking at have breed bans. I've noticed one town outside of St. Louis has bans, but I'm looking to move into St. Louis city itself, or possibly one of the older suburbs just outside of it.

Pit Bull Rescue Central might have the info you need.

You can also look up many cities complete laws online at www.municode.com and know exactly what the law states. St. Louis is there, pay particular attention to code 611.190 and surrounding. I don't see any mention of breed bans in St Louis and the laws seem fair at a very brief first glance.
Don't move to my hometown.... I have the unfortunate luck of living in a BSL regulated city. But just to show you how stupid the lawmakers are in my city, Am Pit Bull Terriers are banned, but Am Staffs are not banned. Explain that one.

Pay attention to your future insurance policy as well. A lot of insurance companies will not cover certain breeds that they have deemed dangerous. Look around if you run into this problem there are insurance companies that base their coverage on the dog and not the breed.
Oops! According to that site, Kpickell, the city I live in now doesn't not allow bull terriers of any sort and states they will be impounded. Strange though, it wasn't listed on any of the other sites. Thats scary stuff, though. :(

Yes, the insurance I have now doesn't allow pit bulls ... nor has any of the places I've lived. The shelter and city I adopted Addie from also has anti pit bull laws. The thing is she's not a pit bull! There are tons of breeds with similar looks and square heads. Darn stupid people making things so difficult :furious:

I grew up in Missouri, that is the one of the worst states for a pitbull owner. I know with some of the laws that have went into affect in California. You can have a pitbull on your insurance in order to be covered they cannot have attacked another dog or person.
I had never had a problem before my thing with the kennel. I looked through the list of city ordinances. Turns out the only place nearby that specifically talks about breeds is where I've living now. How ironic.
Addie has certainly never attacked anyone. I'm switching insurance companies this month anyway. I'll have to look into the new policies involving dogs before signing anything.

I was just talking to my mom about how she assumes every dog with a big head is a pit bull mix... and it's just not true. I had her play the "Find a Pit" game for kicks... http://www.pbrc.net/poppysplace/games/AdultFindabull/findpitbull_v4.html

some of the pics aren't very good; what's funny is I was going to click on the right one when I first went through, but there was a couple of others that could have been as well, it is hard to phenotype off of pics.

Missour is short for missery. I don't even like going back home for visits, very depressing.

I love pitbulls , the best campanion animal. They have so much personality and so much to offer if given a loving home.
Hey! I like Missouri! I just don't like some of their doggy laws. Its still better than Denver ;)

My husband and I just bought our first house. I cannot beleive the LONG list of dogs that are on their list, meaning they won't cover us if we have that kind of dog.
Honestly, that list was shocking (I'm in southern CA, btw).
