It looks like Taco Bell has replaced their 1/2 pound bean burrito especial with a 1/2 pound cheesy bean & rice burrito. It's basically the same thing but with rice and tomatoes. I'm not a big fan of rice on burritos but I know a lot of you like the 7-layer burrito so you may like this with or without the cheese sauce. Hard to beat for 99 cents.

It looks like they have a picture of it up on their website...

I stopped in to a Taco Bell last night to ask about it.

I think there is cheese mixed in the rice already ... so you can't order it w/o cheese.

Not vegan friendly.

I do like to get the side of Fiesta Tomato Salsa. It's basically Pico de Gallo.

I am assuming that since so many people seem to eat there, we are sure that the wraps are not made with lard?????!!!!

The wraps are vegan. There's cheese in the rice? Looks like you're right... At the bottom it has "Mexican rice" and the dairy box is checked...

A little off topic, but once again I tried to substitute salsa for cheese on a bean burrito the other day and they looked at me like I was insane and said they don't have salsa. :brood:

Have you tried asking for it "al fresco"? I read in a magazine that if you ask for it that way they're take off any sour cream & cheese and replace it with their veggie mix (i.e. salsa). They seem to understand that when I go to the ones that are here.

Well the first time when I asked for salsa, I tried rephrasing it by saying "fresco style?" but I just got another blank look.

I find the ones that are at malls, or attached to other evil restaurants, tend to have limited menus. Maybe that's the problem?

Could be. How aggravating, though. You would think that you're not the only one that asks for it that way.

I tried a bean burrito "fresco style" once. Once. I will never eat one that way again, it tasted foul to me. I prefer the regular bean burrito, 86 the cheese. The "pico" tasted like old onions, or a boot or something. Maybe the one I had wasn't made correctly, but it was pretty much a :spew: experience for me.

I never trust them to do it for me. I order the bean burrito no cheese and a side of fiesta tomato salsa. I can look at the pico and if it looks old and nasty, I don't add it. It comes in a small clear sealed container.

They also have a salsa, which I don't like and they've given me by mistake sometimes. I think they named the liquidy salsa "fiesta salsa". If you say "Tomato" you're supposed to get the fresh chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro.

I love TB's Nutrition Calculator! You can figure out the calorie content of anything - even a seven-layer burrito with only five layers!

3.5 g of trans fat! I wish I hadn't looked at the nutritional information now -- I really like their bean burritos, plus rice in a bean burrito sounds pretty good to me.

you should have tried asking for it "pretzel style" (http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showpost.php?p=1055097&postcount=1) instead.

They've had this for awhile I think. I went to Taco Bell with my mom back in November and they had it then.

<<loves rice in burritos.

re: the cheese thing...per 1800TACOBELL, the rice is vegan. The dish "Mexican Rice" is served with cheese by default at the restaurant, so that's why it's on the dairy allergy list. If you ask for it w/o cheese, then everything's groovy.

Doesn't Taco Bell put chicken stock in their rice? I have not had their rice in anything because I thought that this was the case.

If you go to their website and look up their ingredients list, it says their rice is made with vegetable stock (surprisingly enough).

But wow, as someone else commented on, I didn't realize just how much trans fat was in all their stuff -- partially hydrogenated oils in everything - including the second ingredient in their beans... ridiculous.

I am so PO'd they got rid of the 1/ lb bean burrito. :( I ordered it fresco style, and I liked it. The regular bean burritos here have too much bread and a puny amount of beans. :(

I bet they'd give you the cheesy bean one with extra beans instead of the rice. I used to do this sometimes the other way around (extra rice instead of beans) and it was no problem.

I tried this yesterday. It wasn't as tasty as the 7 Layer or the regular Bean Burrito. Plus it made my tummy hurt.
