I went to the eye doctor today after I noticed a change in my vision several weeks ago. This was the earliest we could get in. I thought I was nearsighted, but the tests proved I have astigmatism. I get glasses and only have to wear them at school during classes and if I have problems typing on the computer or writing in my spare time.

One of the nurses knows me and said, "It's because your a vegan."

Can it be a factor? Glacoma (sp?) runs in my family, so eye problems are common, but can it really be related to vegan/vegetarianism? I don't think so, and I don't know if she was kidding or not. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

You might want to ask her what she bases that on. I did a quick search and found that it is usually present at birth and can increase over time but can be caused by disease, injury or surgery.

Yeah, I THINK she was only joking with me. She is a friend of the family and it is her nature. I was curious, though.

No way, it's caused from the shape of your eye :P How is eating vegan going to change that??

I had an astigmatism before I became vegetarian. It's not related (at least in my case). Hopefully she was just joking around and not seriously crazy.

Yeah, what the others said. I'm very nearsighted myself. I was raised omni in an omni family, I've been wearing glasses for roughly 40 years, and I'm not the only nearsighted one in the family.
