I'd like to get a simple one that doesn't sport all the bells and whistles. I would just like to walk about a half hour a day when the weather is not permitting. Any advise on a nice simple treadmill?

About how much do you want to spend? Also, do you want one that folds up, how fast do you want to be able to go and do you want it to incline? I have a membership at consumer reports.com, so I can look up which ones have been rated best by them for you. :)

Another thing I've heard to look into is how hard they are on your joints, but unfortunately, I think the ones best for one's joints tend to be the higher end ones.

Just a piece of advice too, I bought my treadmill - in excellent, like new condition - "used" off of craigslist. i looked and saw stuff on the recycler and other similar places too. bought my elliptical machine off there too. both for a small fraction of the cost, but in basically perfect condition because soo many people buy them thinking they're gonna use them but they become a coat rack instead...

You can get a simple one for around 300.00.(I think) I used to have a cheap one for awhile and wore it out fast. Now I have a very nice one. It makes all the difference in the world like on your joints, especially if you ever plan to run on it. Right now mine is just a pretty decoration in my room.:p

^^ you're crazy.....get using it girl!! :) I'd love a treadmill right now. Going out walking everyday in the aussie summer = too much sun exposure for me :(

I am crazy since I use to run on it all the time. I call it my baby. Yeah, I plan on getting back to running again. I never liked running outside.

It doesnt have to fold up and I really want to just walk on it. Thanks!

does noise bother you? If your just walking than a cheapER one might do well... but just watch out, some can make a TON of noise. (my dad bought one for his medical practice--just to use for physicals--and it's so loud that his neighbors have him tell them when he's going to use it!)

Okay, but how much do you want to spend? They range from a few hundred bucks to thousands.

Well..not thousands! I'd say $300-$400?

Okay, for that price range it's hard to get a good quality one, but if you're just going to be walking on it then it's not a big deal. Usually for a good quality treadmill you need to spend at least a grand. I have a Pro-form that I got on sale for $1000 and it's worked great for almost 5 years now.

I looked on Consumer Reports for you and they only had a few in your price range that were in the top ratings. For about $400, they had the Image 15.0. It has a smaller belt (50 x 18), but if you're not going to run on it then that should be just fine. It's rated excellent in ease of use and does fold up (which can come in very handy when moving it).

The only other one they have in their top ratings for under a grand was around $500 and that is the Weslo Cadence C62. It has a lower rating that the Image, though, in all features, so if it was between the two the Image model is definitely the better one.

Good luck with your purchase!
