We had Christmas at my house again this year. I was the only raw fooder and the only veg*n, too. So there was a turkey on the table. :( Everyone loved my raw food so much, though, that they are talking about maybe doing an all raw Christmas next year!

I made:
strawberry crepes (everyone raved about these and said it was like eating something from a gourmet shop. they didn't last long at all, once people had a little taste of them. I wanted to make a double batch but ran out of time and I only have a 4 tray dehydrator!)
flax seed crackers (one batch was the regular recipe in Alissa's book; the second was the same recipe with some shredded carrot added.)
avocado chutney - goes amazingly well with the flax seed crackers
very big fruit salad
BIG veggie tray with homemade dip (alissa's dill cream cheese dip which didn't quite turn out right - at first- as I added too much water, so I had to mess around with the recipe some and it turned out great)
mock turkey loaf - (no pictures) most people tried this, too, and they really loved it.
ginger cookies. another wonderful thing that went over very well. there were some raisins that didn't get pureed so there were whole raisins in some of the cookies. i think i'll try doing whole as well as pureed raisins next time. i also used spelt instead of oat groats, that the recipe called for. still was soooo yummy.

hmm. i think that was it!

Those crepes look excellent. So do the cookies and fruit salad. I've tried making the crepes before but I have the dehydrator that is a circle with a big thing going through the center so you can't make anything tortilla like. Plus it always rips apart when i take it off the tray.

Those dishes looked amazing, it must have taken hours to prepare. I'm such a dehydrator novice, you seem like a pro. I wish I had a raw food weekend, I ate too much crap; vegan crap but crap all the same.

Wow, that's all so colorful. Mine looked like a pile of brown and green slop (there's a picture in the photo album). :p Tasted good though!

the american harvest brand, right? do you use teflex sheets or parchment paper on top of the trays? you could still do the crepes, the 'sheets' will just be a little curved. i've only ever used the excalibur dehydrator, though, so i don't know too much about it.

yeah, the crepe sheets had to go into the dehydrator about 16 hours. i tried to make the banana mixture as thin as possible so it wouldn't end up too mushy. it was my first time making these and i was so worried they wouldn't turn out right but they were scrumptious.

thanks to everyone else for the kind words! it was great food.

I couldn't agree more. If the food was 1/2 as tasty as it looks, you must have had a great meal, jenna!

That fruit salad looks somethin' serious ok. Haha. Dang. :) I'm not raw, but I really want to try that stuff. I love different foods. Haha. I just enjoy so much trying to different things to eat. Wow. :)

Does walmart have dehydraters?

 All raw.

They carry the American Harvest kind. It's round and has a hole in the middle for the trays attach. I have the excalibur. I think it works better - it's rectangular, no holes in the trays and the trays are easier to get to. The American Harvest is cheaper though, retail wise. You can get dehydrators on ebay.

Wow! Not only did those photos cause my tongue to hang out a foot and a half, but this thread has reminded me that I've been wanting to get myself a dehydrator.

I'll have to look up the raw "turkey loaf". We are just easing into the vegetarian and raw way of eating - and I'm finding giving up bread and seafood to be the most difficult. So, Christmas meals still included seafood - sorry to all the good vegans and vegetarians out there. Eating out is not an easy option, especially when out with friends. Sure, there are salads - but not so interesting, most of the time. Shall I ever actually make it as a raw vegan? Or am I doomed to crave and crash?
Special occasions certainly require different foods from the everyday raw.
I'm getting the hang of it - dehydrating in a small round appliance - but as it doesn't have a temperature control, how can I be sure it isn't too hot? It has six trays - but can't do very large flat items. Made some great carrot pulp patties and we are always dehydrating marinated eggplant.

Will I ever overcome my seafood and bread desires?
