Anyone know if they're vegan?? Ralphs had them on sale for only $0.89 each, normally they're $1.39 so I stocked up on them... BIG TIME.
Here's a link to their site showing ingredients, http://www.clifbar.com/eat/eat.cfm?location=bar&id=68
from what I can tell, they look okay. Only thing i'm not sure about is the "Malt Extract". I ended up buying 5 different flavors... Carrot Cake, Black Cherry Almond, Cookies n Cream, Lemon Poopyseed, and the Chocolate fudge one.
These are one of the only few bar's out there i've seen that look vegan... everything else has Milk and Whey Protein thrown in.

Cool...a Clif Bar's thread....I remember a conversation on Clif Bars and Luna Bars in another thread that had me rollin' in the floor laughing so hard I had to go to the hospital to get stitched up..well, maybe not that far but be forwarned, things may get a little comical (I can only hope). Anyhow yes, I believe they are vegan although I have no link for you that proves my statement :)

It was silly. There was a friendly debate that just about drove Soilman over the edge on whether Clif Bars and Luna Bars are the same thing. If I find it I'll link it. For some reason it really tickled my funny bone though.

Definitely vegan. I eat a ton of these. Actually, I eat more Luna Bars because they're much tastier.

Yes, vegan. And try the carrot cake flavor first. :) It's surprisingly very carrot cakey.

Yes, but they seem too sweet to me. I used to really like them, but I kinda got sugared out. Note to those not in the know: They don't use refined sugar.

They're vegan, but I had to stop eating them because I get really bad toothaches every time I eat one. No other food gives me a toothache, just Cliff Bars.

I love clif and luna bars, but they are a rare treat because they are so expensive. Krogers will occasionally have them for $.99 and I try to stock up when they do. I too was wondering if they were vegan as I have seen them mentioned several times on this board. Thanks for the info.

Yum...
I just bought a whole box (the discount at my work comes in useful) of the S'mores Luna Bars today. They are my breakfast most days.

i like clif bars better, they are like cookies and they always smell like coconut to me. but i like luna bars too...we should have a vote on the best flavor or something.

I guess not liking coconut does it for me there. I don't think they taste like cookies at all, but I guess that depends on what kind of cookies you're used to eating, right?
My favorite Luna flavors are:
Lemon Zest
Key Lime
Chocolate Peppermint Stick
Clif Bar:
Chocolate Mint Ice, or something like that.

I'm not sure why you would want to eat a ClifBar. In my opinion, they are filled with crap (but they are, however less worse than PowerBar).
All those added vitamins go right through your body, on their way out, leaching some others from you, not to mention you have no idea how or where they came from. Also, anytime the "decaffeinate" something, they are processing it big time, usually with nasty cancer causing agents.
If you really want a good bar, I would suggest one of the following two:
ReBar (an awesome organic, whold foods bar)
http://www.healthcocanada.com
Organic Vegan Food Bar (live food bar, excellent, but expensive)
http://www.organicfoodbar.com
Hope that helps,

Yummy. I need to start buying these again. They make a perfect sub for meals at school and are fast and easy. They are only .99 at trader joes. :lick:

"They don't use refined sugar."
Not so. "Evaporated cane juice" is a form of refined sugar. It may be slightly less refined than plain white sugar, but it is still highly refined -- it does not contain all the natural micronutrients and flavoring that is part of whole cane juice. See http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3736&perpage=20&highlight=evaporated%20cane%20juice&pagenumber=2
However the first sweetener listed is rice syrup -- and this may be whole malted (barely sprouted) rice -- it could very well be unrefined after it is produced from the rice. And more of it is used than evap cane juice (you know that because it is listed first).

Ingredients of C-bar carrot cake type from link above:
=====================
Ingredients: Brown rice syrup, rolled oats, evaporated cane juice, ClifPro™ (soy nuggets [soy protein isolate, rice flour, oat flour], soy flour, roasted soybeans), dried apples, ClifCrunch™ (apple fiber, oat fiber, milled flaxseed, soy fiber, chicory extract, lemon fiber, psyllium), white chips (evaporated cane juice, cocoa butter, soy milk [soybean, water], soy lecithin, natural flavors), dried carrots, crisp rice (brown rice, malt extract), roasted soy butter, raisins, toasted coconut, sea salt, natural flavors, spices, baking soda, decaffeinated green tea extract.
=============================
The only listed ingredient questionable as to its veganity seems to be "natural flavors."
However at $1.79 (the usual price) for 2.4 oz (68 grams) that is $11.93 per pound. Absolutely outrageous price for a cookie. $0.99 per bar (6.60 per pound seems high, but not outrageous).
Plus they seem rather high in saturated fat -- 10 percent of the daily max amount recommended in one little bar, and 6 percent of the daily amount of total fat needed. Actually, we don't need any saturated fat at all. So a food with lots of it is not, in my opinion, a "health" food or a particularly good source of nutrition. Tho I wouldn't worry about the amount in one of these Cliff bars (much of it may come from the cocoa butter).

I definitely need to stock up on Luna bars. I've been without for a couple of weeks now simply because I haven't made it to the store where I normally get them.
I like Luna bars because they're healthier than a lot of other things I could eat, quick, easy to carry around, and they taste good. I wish there were some way to get Luna bars but not the package they come in, ya know?

Why? Because they say "for women?"

Mmm. My favorite is the chai tea flavor. So sweet, and yummy in my tummy.
