Has anyone accidently eaten something that had meat in it? If you did, what happened? My aunt says that if she eats meat her stomach gets really messed up. I'm worried that i might accidently eat meat and then get really sick!

You may get a stomach ache, constipation or diarrhea, probably gas.

I once ingested dairy without knowing it (I am Vegan), and I was very sick. Diarrhea, vomiting, etc. My system is used to vegan things, and is very touchy. :spew:

It depends. Probably a very small amount of meat wouldn't cause physical problems, but everyone's system is different. Since humans as a race typically have the ability to digest animal flesh, I doubt anything more traumatic than a "24-flu" would happen to you, unless you were alergic.

Some people say they are very sensitive to meat and/or dairy, and notice physical effects right away, but my main effect is that I'm bummed out when I discover I've eaten meat! I ate some "vegetable" tamales 4-5 times at my former favorite restaurant before I found out they were made with lard, and I never got sick. So it all depends on you.
Oh, but I don't think there's any question that if you ate a LOT of meat (like a whole hamburger or something), you would definitely get sick. But it would be pretty darn hard to eat that much without noticing, no?

I accidentally ate a small portion of a Taco Bell burrito that had beef in it a week or so ago. Nothing happened.

I had a cookie that looked fine, except I skipped over the fine print that said the shortening was beef fat :spew: Nothing happened, although I made myself sick by thinking about it too much

I got hives once when starbucks mixed up my soy latte with a skim latte, I also had horrible stomach cramps but that was from a pretty large coffee. Typically if I get slipped small amounts of animal products I'll wake up the next day with a swollen drippy sore throat.

I haven't knowingly eaten any meat in over ten years so I really don't know what would happen exactly. I doubt that my body would react that badly but my mind would probably be a bit shaken :)

There have been a few times I've gotten what I've dubbed a stomach flu, but it could have been from restaurant food.
If I know that I've eaten meat, I feel sick, but I really think that's mostly in my head. The whole gross idea of it.

I used to have serious stomach issues after eating meat mistakenly when I first went vegan. It was purely psychological. Back then, I almost vomited when I discovered a tempeh dish I ate was flavored with honey. Fast forward 6 years (now vegetarian), and it's no longer an issue. I realize that eating meat accidentally doesn't make me impure or a bad vegetarian. When it happens now, I simply put the rest of the meat aside or give it to a friend. No muss, no fuss.

I've never accidentally eaten "actual meat." I have accidentally eaten gelatin many times as it is in so many things. It is SO hard to avoid!! :grr:

I think it's all psychological. Biologically your body has the more of an ability to digest meat than it does vegetables. So you really shouldn't be getting sick. You probably get sick just thinking about meat though and then to actually eat it would make you really sick, but it's all in your head.

i was given soup once that i was told "oh its totaly vegetarian REALLY" but as soon as i tasted it i new it was "flavored" with chicken. the maker of the soup when asked said "oh yeah its those cube things, but thats not really chicken its been ground" well i was angry but not sick. a few times i've had things with lard in it not knowing, i've always been upset when i learned, but never actully sick.

I ordered the cheese bean burritto from Taco Bell and it had meat (hamburger crumbles) in it....I did not get sick, but I just had a tiny bite. It made me mad as it is against my beliefs and I did not have any food other than that for lunch and I did not have enough time to go back.

I was at a party today after a race and was starving. I saw all these soups and quickly noticed a vegetable soup. I took a big bite (this soup was FULL of veggies) and taste turkey. :stinkeye: After I poked through it with my spoon, I saw little flakes of turkey under the veggies. Luckily, a friend wanted it ,and I got some wonderful, vegetarian potato soup. Lesson learned.
