Is it just me?? Or are you guys confused about this? Im just curious what the majority of people do...

Ive always eaten like...a piece of toast before bed, can't sleep on a totally empty stomach. But then I heard about how its better to not eat after like 6pm, whihc makes sense, and apparently lets your body rest more re: digestion etc.

But today I read about the whole 'if you dont eat for 12 hours you're metabolism goes into starvation mode'. I have a sped up metabolism as is. But I still dont want that :S and if I ignore my 5am eatings (which I'm trying to start doing)....then that means I'd technically be fasting?!?!

Opinions welcome...:boobies:

A piece of toast before bed isn't enough calories to worry about.

I don't get home until about 7:45 pm every night. I never feel like starting up a meal immediately, so I don't eat until after 9:00 generally. And since I've decided to make an effort at gaining weight, I'm trying to eat even more food late at night.

I think the not eating after six thing might be feasible if all you are doing after six is lolling about on the couch. But if you are still active after six, well, your body needs the energy.

oh ok. yeah its just that both those theories clashed. and its not about weight, coz to be honest i should probably gain. its more about like...i dont wanna go into fasting mode but i often sleep badly so anything to help there is grand. oh well. ill just keep doing what im doing with the tiny meal before bed.

I always eat before bed, if I don't then I can't sleep! And I'm not overweight. I say just eat it and don't worry.

Before bed, I use to eat something that was low in calories like at 7 or 8 pm. I don't know how people don't eat after 6pm. Haha. I have tried it, I can't do it. I'll be hungry, and like someone else said here, I don't like to go to bed hungry.

If you're trying to lose weight, you should always be eating. Like 5 small meals a day. Like this, breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. So that's like five meal. When you do this your metabo just keeps on going, keeps going. Allowing your body to burn calories like all day. When you're eating, you're keeping your metabo working. Now, when you're not eating, your metabo. Slows down, and you go into starvation mode. That's why when you see a person who is anorexic, they may not have any muscle or no tissue. It's because their body was not getting any food to eat on. Or for nurishment. So, it turned the other way and started to eat on their muscles and all that. Your body is gonna get some food, even if it's from food are your own flesh.

Eating something at night, isn't gonna do anything. If you go into starvation mode, it's not gonna last long. Haha. You're just gonna get right back up and eat the next morning. Plus, if you do not excess your day calorie intake for that day, it's not gonna harm you. Like 10 more calories isn't gonna do anything. You just keep on get up and doing the same thing everyday. And why are you gonna start eating breakfast at 5am? :D

It's sort of strange, but I've noticed the later at night that I eat a big meal, the hungrier I am in the morning. Other people have told me the same thing happens to them. Makes no sense.

Maybe eat more for dinner or have dinner later? I personally never heard that you should not eat after 6 PM..most folks dont eat dinner before 6.

here's my schedule roughly:

8 am: breakfast
11 am: lunch
2 pm: snack
5 pm: supper
8 pm: dinner

sometimes, i have meals as late as 9 or 10--if i'm staying up late. here's my husband's (fast metabolism, 3000 cals/day schedule)

5:30 am--wakes hungry and has breakfast.
8:00 am--brunch
11:00 am--lunch
3:00 pm--'snack' which is the same number of calories as the other meals.
6:00 pm--supper
8:30 pm--dinner

estimated bed time--9:30-10:30.

There is no reason that i've seen not to eat after a certain time of day or not to eat before a certain time of day. If you're hungry, then you should eat. If you're not hungry, then you should not eat. Both my husband and I eat after 6 o'clock every evening. Usually, the 'last meal' is over at least 30 minutes before bed time. It's a full meal, not a snack like toast.

you have to do what you think is best and most appropriate--not what some outside authority thinks is best and appropriate.

Oh ok taurushead. I didn't know why. After I typed that post, I thought maybe you ate at 5am because you got up for work. I just asked because at the time I thought It was a little strange. But now i'm like hey, who am I to question others on the things they do, ya know. Do ya thang. :)
