New to the board so apologies if this topic has already been flogged to death (somewhat inappropriate teminology perhaps). As a veg*n, I was wondering if I could justify getting a cat as a pet (or animal companian if you prefer). Will this not add to the sum of animal suffering by my having to feed the cat meat? I assume I would have to feed the cat meat as I remember my family having cats when younger, and they were fussy buggers, make no mistake. Does the keeping of any carnivorous domestic animals not generate a market for dead animals? I know veg*ns who do not not seem to have a problem with it, to to me it seems counter-intuitive to eliminate animals from ones own diet while keeping a non-indigenous animal at home that consumes large amounts of the same.
Any thoughts?
I really would like a cat!

Hi and welcome to VB! :)

This topic has been discussed in depth in various threads, so try a search and you're sure to come up with some interesting reading.

Personally, I have 2 cat furbabies. I believe that cats cannot survive on a vegan diet so I do feed them a very healthy premium cat food. Yes, the fact that I have to feed them meat has caused me some concern, but after reading and researching as much as I can on the subject, I feel like I'm doing the right thing by them. To me it is worth it to care for these wonderful creatures. Humans put dogs and cats in the position of being domesticated and I feel it is our responsibility to look out for them.
