Yesterday: Las Vegas Marathon

Well, what can I say about this run?
It was really cool getting to meet Slynny who managed to find us at the start line among 11,000 other runners.
I had a complete meltdown practically at mile 25 and ended up walking most of that mile, thus making me miss my time goal by 13 minutes. Grrr. This happens every race. Oh well.

Thanks to those of you who wished us luck. :)

Mskedi, :hi: It is good to see you back in this thread. I hope you start posting more. :)

Hellloo Captain! Welcome back from your marathon..sounds to me like you did just fine! No worries!! :nana:
Personal goals or no, you still accomplished more then most people could and for that, hugs and and a slap on the back? or butt? I think most athletes do the butt thing, but whatever u prefer...HAHAHA

As for me? Pilates made me hurt. lol I used muscles I didn't know i had, which was weird cause while I was doing it, it felt great, but when i woke up the next day? oooohhh i was hurting... haha

SO I took the day off sunday, but resumed gym schedule yesterday.

They keep trying to sell me protein shakes at the gym but i'm not a very good label reader..so i was wondering if anyone on here could share your thoughts? stay away from them? or are they a good idea?
IF they are a good idea, what should i be looking for on the labels to ensure they are ok to have?

I would prefer a slap on the butt thanks. My lower back is in pain right now. :p The only time I have problems with it is after 26.2. Anything less and it is fine.

I've never really been into the protien shake thing. No particular reason though, I just haven't bought them. Some people swear by them.

Today: light upper arm weights, 1 mile walk with dog.

Hi Hamsters,

Just got back from Vegas....what a blast. What a great marathon....even though I missed my goal by almost a half an hour. O' well, I'll just have to keep trying

It was very cool meeting up with CaptainSwab! O come on Captain, those hats your club wears made it hard to miss you guys, well, and I guess I just got lucky, but it was sure fun to start the marathon with you. :vebo:

After the marathon I did lots of walking with my hub on the strip and yesterday too. I stayed up really late last night, we were winning at craps...so I'm beat, I have to go to bed now.

Great Hamstering veggies4me!

Mskedi, very nice to see you back!!! Hope to see you often! :guitar:

Go Hamsters!! :hamster:

Hey Slynny! I've been away for a very long time and for some reason this site enterd my mind. I see that you and Captain Swab just completed the Vegas Marathon. Awesome! Now I regret not doing it with my sister because I just did Atlanta. She did Vegas.

Maybe you can do the Texas Marathon April 2nd with me? Anyways, I'm going to spend a few minutes looking around to see who is still here that I might know.

well... i go through lapses of pretty severe depression, where i don't get anything done including exercising, got out of it this week, and went to the gym for 3 days straight, did weight training arms/chest first day and 15 minutes cardio, second day 20 minutes cardio, and about 40 minutes cardio on the ellipitcal machines today, feels good, i hope i can keep it steady, maybe that "idea" of joining the LA Marathon might turn into reality... those 3 days were closer to my weekend, my workdays are starting, so on workdays it'll be harder for me to try keep up the routine:rainbow:

Are you planning on running the LA marathon this year? (March 19th) LA is a ton of fun but very zoo like. Do you live in the so cal area? If you do, there are a number of training groups you can join to help you train:
The LA roadrunners are in ventura, la, and chino hills
Snails pace is in orange
LA leggers are a huge group (not sure where they meet)
Loma Linda Lopers in the riverside/san bernardino area

Good luck! Hope to see you there. :)

I always take walk breaks when I am running long runs. Sometimes on my shorter runs I do too.

The couch to 5k program on coolrunning.com is a good program if you are just beginning. It starts out with a lot of walking and a little running. Gradually you work up to where you are doing more running and just a bit of walking and at a distance of 3.1 miles. Lots of people have had success with it.
You can find it here: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
The actual training schedule is towards the end of the page.

3 mile run...brrrr 17 degrees with a 20mph wind in the snow

Captain it felt just a little colder than the marathon :D

peace_writer, I take walk breaks too depending on the distance I'm running. When I started running I would walk alot and it took me a while to be able to build up distance. I would set little goals for myself like....one day my goal would be to run two blocks without stopping, the next day three, the next day four, until I would gradually build up to a mile and so on. Basically, you have to test the waters and determine what your capable of and then build on that. As far as measuring distance goes, sometimes I'll set up a course to run by biking it to measure the distance (my bike has an odometer) and sometimes I'll drive the car.

Kathym, Great to see you! Congrats on Atlanta  but it would have been cool to have seen you in Vegas. Texas huh? April...hmmm. I'm going to go to the sight and check it out.

Go Hamsters!!! :vebo: :nana: :bobo: :pibo:
