How do I submit a recipe?

Submitting a recipe works differently than submitting a thread. Since the recipes have to be formatted you will need to submit them using the following form...

http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/newthread.php?do=form

You can also find this link on the main page in the description for the Recipe forum.

Copyright

Do not post recipes unless:

...you created them.
...or you have permission to reproduce them.
...or you have rewritten the instructions in your own words.

Comment on Recipes

If you try a recipe please come back and post a comment and/or a picture!

I have now managed to submit it using that form but it isnt showing in the recipes thread
Does it have to be checked before going on there?

I think Michael does indeed check the recipes and then posts them. He categorizes them too. They won't show up right away.

I have a question, if we find a recipe online that we really like, can we post it here and just give the link to the site it's on or just don't post it??

ok, so looking at michaels copyright rules up there.... i think the best plan would be to either:

-ask the person who put the recipe on the other website if they're ok with you copying the text of their recipe to here, and adding a shout out to them, and a link to their site along with the recipe.

-write the recipe and its instructions up in your own words, so that you're making the recipe your own, and not just nicking their text. sort of like you were explaining to a friend how to do it, instead of giving them a photocopy of the page from your cookery book.

Ok, a lot of recipes I find aren't vegetarian, I do a couple substitutions and I can rewrite the instructions so I'm guessing that will be ok.

From what I understand you can keep the ingredients list the same but you have to rewrite the instructions in your own words. Or you could just ask permission.

I have a recipe that I made up, and would like to share, but I just make it by 'feel' and could probably just give approximations. Is that okay or do I need specific measurements?

i think approximations can work fine for some people, but others might be a bit more lost. depends a fair bit on what it is really. with soup its a bit less vital to have say... the exact diameter of an onion, which has been cut into precisely 0.75cm dice specified, but with cookies, saying 'chuck a few handfuls of flour into bowl, add liquid till it looks like gloop'... thats not gonna be so great for most of us.

i'd say do your best and follow your instincts. saying 'about a teaspoon'... 'just a little bit less than a cup'... 'add liquid to make a batter the consistancy of melted icecream'... those kinda descriptions sound ok to me. :)

I have a vegetarian cookbook that has some good recipes in it, and 5-6 using an ingredient that another member asked for recipes of. If I type it in by hand, is that all right, or is it copyright violation? I don't mind sharing recipes, but I do mind copyright violation!

You can certainly post them and perhaps write "based on a recipe from [name of cookbook]" to be courteous, but you should re-write the instructions in slightly different words to avoid copyright violations. It doesn't have to be radically different, just as long as it isn't an exact copy. :)
