Hi everyone! I went vegan with the help of only the computer almost two years ago, but I didn't have any supportive friends. Someone in my Culinary Arts class at school came across PETA's "Question Athority" half way by accident, and now she wants to go vegan! I have a couple of pounds worth of info filed away for anyone interested in going veg*n, but I know that to much would overwhelm her, and quite honostly, might be a waste if she changes her mind. So I'm wondering how much is too much, and when is it enough?

I'm asking ya'll because I know that you are working on the change and/or interested in it. So, I want to know what you think. If you had a vegan friend, and you were just interested in changing your diet, how much info. would you like them to give to you?

I'd just ask her if she would like any information. If she says yes give her some of the essential info and ask if she would like more?

It definitely has to be her process. It seems like you have good instincts on how not to overwhelm her. The strength of your friendship with her will determine how likely she is to be overwhelmed. ...Remember that being Vegan is not a strong enough reason to base a friendship on. Make sure you engage her on other levels. Don't talk about it too much, but help her with finding food choices that she'll be happy with.

And remember, don't take her success or failure upon yourself. It's ultimately up to her.

I agree. Just let your friend dictate the pace.

When I went vegan I read anything I could get my hands on. Here are a few internet resources I found helpfull:

I completly agree with you both, i feel that if she wants to learn about *~VEGANISM~*, its not just about what she eats, its about giving up EVERYTHING!!! {wool/leather/make up ect ect}

I wud wait in the sidelines, when she want information, she will come and ask. Till then, .............................

Above all, be a god friend, on every level, we all need friends.

Haha! If you lived near me, then I would. Hey, do what I (a really cheap person) did to get the information:

PETA will send you one free order per week (this may be stickers, a starter "kit" etc.) Vegan Outreach has an even better starter kit. Back a while ago, their was a thread started linking to free starter kits. Click on it and order everything. Go back to the sights in a week and order another bunch. Go to any fairs and other events, and see if there is a veggie table. If so, then gather all of the free matterial. Then, you can google to see if there is a Veg. Society in your area, and go to those events to get free info! Finally, there should be a vegetarian help line in your phone book. I would give you the one listed in the phone book that I have, but I j:) :) ust moved and have no clue where the phone book is at.
