I'm one of these people that doesn't really like the idea of substituting meat with imitations. Well it's not really that exactly , I just don't want to feel that I'm eating something very refined and plasticky. So what is soya mince and how 'modified' is it ? it kind of tastes pretty artificial to me ( unlike tofu ) , but if I found that it wasn't then maybe I'd feel differently about it . eg pasta is kind of made from a wheat pulp and doesn't really have much else in it I think , so what is soya mince ? I feel that things that are very refined could have unknown harmful effects in the long run, and that they could even possibly become 'non-foods' in some cases in which case they would not be very digestible and those type of things tend to build up in the body , another protein issue I guess ,

Do you mean TVP (texterized vegetable protein)? If so, I was under the assumtion that it is refined but it doesn't have a lot of additives (if any).
My brother doesn't like the idea of meat replacements either. But I figure they are just fun treats for now -- eventually I hope to be 100% raw with no refined foods.
You may want to contact the manufacturer to see about how soy mince is made.

If mince is the same as TVP or TSP (textured vegetable protein or textured soy protein), then its defatted soy flour that's been extruded at high speeds. Some TVP is also made with SPI (soy protein isolate) which more and more I just don't like.
But that's US. I have a feeling you're somewhere else in the world? If so, I would recommend checking the ingredients and production processes of the mince in your area to see if it's suitable for you or not (actually, I would recommend doing that no matter where you are). Otherwise, curd-style tofu broken up and browned a bit is a lovely substitute for TVP and it's not as processed, either. :)
Oh, and there's a lot of people round here that don't like fake meats while there's a lot that do. Fortunately, being vegetarian doesn't mean you have to like them or have to not like them - that decision can be strictly up to you (it's what we like to call "a personal choice" ;) ).
Hope that helps a bit. :)
soya mince is usually refined soya flour, or similar. It's quite synthetic, but at the end of the day, it's not really an essentialfood item. I use it quite a bit, and have no qualms with it.

thanks peoples . I had some quorn yesterday , crispy fillets. They were very nice but I wouldn't like to rely on that kind of stuff as a staple , if things are very processed , I don't really know what they might be doing to me in the long term . I think Id like to make more use of nuts. Even though they have fat apparently it's good fat and I find that they replace your minerals alot ,
