An African elephant gored a zookeeper to death at Vienna's Schoenbrunn zoo today, police said. The 39-year-old elephant handler was giving the 4-year-old bull a shower when the 1 600kg animal turned on him and ran its tusks into his stomach and chest, police said.

OMG!!! This is sad. I do not blame you at all for feeling this way!!

I am so angry!!

How many humans have to die before we realize that it's not ok to treat elephants as slaves? You would think even people who don't care about animals would be wondering this.

It's so sick - I am so angry. Daphne said it perfectly and it is so true - It has happened time and time again - " Treating an elephant brutally, as in the video I viewed, is a recipe for disaster in the longterm, because the elephant will one day settle the score by killing one of its persecutors" "Elephants have very long memories and the actions of the Zoo personnel towards this young elephant will certainly not endear them to her."

This is why I wondered WTH happened to the African Elephant at this same zoo that killed the keeper by goring and crushing him to death. This elephant bided his/her time - they ALL do!!

I do hope one of these guys is gored and it would not surprise me if the mother ended up doing it!! I can only hope!!

Yea, it's hard to watch. I watched about 10 seconds and had to stop for awhile and go back to it (I made myself watch and then wanted to throw up)

This link has stills but you need to scroll down about 1/2 way. The stills aren't so bad and there is no sound which is good because frankly, I think hearing the baby scream is - I think - is almost the worst part!!
