Anyone tried CLA/Hydroxycut/Abs+/hoodia or anything else that worked?
I am very frustrated that I work out so much (at least 30 min daily), eat a vegan diet (no junk food) with lots of veg/protein/complex carbs, & am still obese.:-/
I want to try a supplement to speed things up in a healthy way.

Tried CLA and i lost 5lbs in 5 days. It works well esp with vegan diet.

You might suggest trying colon cleansing first. That would be a good start for you. I like Health Direct, colon cleansing.. I take the tablets for 5 days.

I did herbalife back when I was 14, lost alot of weight, that crap doesn't work for me anymore though.

Are you on any meds? They can screw with your weight. For example, my sister is 40 pounds heaver since she started taking one drug.

I have the same problem, Organica. Except I quit working out and exercising because it was just a waste of time and was making me extremely tired and hungrier than I already was (I thought exercise was supposed to boost your energy and curb your appetite at least to some extent!?). A few years ago, I took something called Metablast, which was mostly ephedra with a few other "speedy" herbs thrown in for good measure. I lost 8lbs in about 10 days without even trying, and that was after I had plateaued and had a hard time shaking those last few pounds. Stayed off, too.

These days, all I can get is the ephedra-free replacement which is a wonderful energy/concentration booster, but does JACK for weight loss. I had resorted to taking straight ephedrine (Bronkaid) stacked with caffeine and aspirin for a while and that didn't help either, although I could stay awake for 3 days on that stuff, lol.

Hmm.. this CLA that you speak of highly interests me.....

How long did you exercise for ^^?

Didn't lose anything?

I was on Effexor for 5 months, gained 10 lbs per month.
Psychiatrist conveniently forgot to tell me about that "rare" side effect.
I'm down from 195 to 185 lbs after working out 4-5 days a week, about 45 min of cardio, plus weights, in one month.
It's so frustrating.
I am buying CLA immediately!! Thanks so much for the proof it works.

Oh, hmm... last year, it was a good 6 months of weight training 3 times a week and cardio 4 or 5 days. I lost ONE pound, but that could have been due to anything. I had my body fat and muscle mass calculated on one of those neat scales and it hadn't changed at all in the 6 month period.

I started exercising again a few months ago, but can honestly say I got frustrated with it before I even gave it a chance.

I was on Effexor for 5 months, gained 10 lbs per month.

How entirely insane! That's exactly what happened to me. Except my psychiatrist did mention I might gain a little weight that I probably wouldn't be able to lost even after I stopped the medication... "A little" being about 5-7 pounds, he said. Yeah, right. Thanks, doc, now I'm lugging around this 50 extra pounds that I just can't lose no matter what I do.

Gotta love those pharmeceuticals & the docs who push them!!:furious:
It's sickening that severe obesity is the side effect of so many psych drugs, like antipsychotics, Effexor & SSRIs, & lithium.
I told my doc that I find this completely unacceptable.
I am now taking a bunch of natural things "against medical orders" because the stinking psychiatrist doesn't even know what l-theanine, sepia 30C or ashwaghanda (sp.) are, let alone how they work, & I refuse to try any more drugs despite the severity of my symptoms.
Obesity is not acceptable!!

Katt, have you tried eating more protein? I think it's helping me a bit but I still plan on picking up some CLA pronto.

Actually, I've been craving protein like mad lately so I've been eating it up (eating less calories from other things, of course). I'll see how it goes. I'm also very excited about the CLA. I may see if I can pick it up tonight at the HFS. But is CLA good for energy, also? I don't know anything about it. I guess I should research it before I buy it, lol. Would I have to give up taking my energy pills? I am a total slug without them.

you're making me think twice about my plan, I've been doing it for 2 weeks now, 18 miles of cardio a week..eating right and all..many say that's how you lose weight, and with you and others i've read about say it isn't..

Well, different things work for different people. I probably am not a very good example of someone who can lose weight "correctly" or healthfully given my history with food relationship issues. Two weeks is not a very long for some people to start seeing results... Keep it up, I'm sure you'll do fine :)

My sister was and still is taking Effexor. I was taking Zyprexa until Friday, I went from 6 feet 155 to 161. I worked out for a week and mained my weight. I may be interested taking CLA in addition to working out.

Can you get Veg*n CLA though? I can only find stuff which has gelatine in...

organica
11-13-05, 12:20 PM
I looked at some, & while the CLA itself was derived from sunflower oil, the gelcap was gelatine.
I am still contemplating buying it, because I cannot fathom staying at 30% body fat & 185 lbs (5'6"). It will kill me.
I figure the gelatine is an unavoidable evil, like the animal products used to create the tires on my bicycle, or the gelatine in my antipsychotic meds. :(
But it'[s up to you if you can rationalize it like that.
If you hear of vegan CLA, please tell us all!!

I like green tea extract (also known as ecgc) for my little bit of zip. When I remember to take it I notice a difference and it doesn't make me feel all jittery and whacked out.

i would slowly increase your activity level to an hour to an hour and a half and work on interval training. whenever you do cardio, do intervals and that will help most.

I would icrease your intencity on your workouts. Meaning switch up your cardio activites. Your body changes when you challenge yourself, pick a cardio workout that you don't like or are not used to.Cycling is the best. :hamster:

 This is why people (myself!) are so quick to turn to pills. I don't know about you, but with my two jobs and everything else life brings...I'll be damned if I can work in 1-1/2hrs to exercise as well. I'd basically have to get up go to work come home eat work out go to bed. No thanks :(
