It's sad, but: Andy Macfarlane, the chairman of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation in Scotland, said the birds being killed would have been shot anyway.
Maybe some good will come out of it this way, instead of the ducks losing their lives simply because some duck hunters have small penises. :sealed:
I think it's stupid. They should look for sick birds, not shoot healthy ones.
It's called sampling.
Not all birds that contract the virus get sick and die quickly. These are the ones that cause the most damage through transmission.
The ones that get sick and die quickly do not travel far, therefore do not pose a significant threat towards spreading this disease to different regions.
I believe it would be possible to test for flu without killing the birds. Killing was done because it is easier and cheaper.
You really don't know what it takes to live capture birds, do you?
This time of year only rocket netting would be practical. It is extremely expensive, labor intensive, and has limited success. Plus you are capturing birds of the same flock and for the purpose of this type of testing you don't want to test several birds that are closely related (in the same flock).
Plus your still going to kill 20-30% due to capture myopathy, so you may as well get a better sample by killing the same number of birds over a greater range, thereby increasing your sample.
You can also net birds off of airboats, but molting has concluded and they can now fly away, so it is very impractical.
I said killing them is easier and cheaper.

No, it's called. Panic has set in :brood:
Most human bird flu infections are due to handling birds sick with the virus or contact with their droppings.

In the US anyway, bird flu might be an excuse to impose martial law.
