my little oranda (Dan) has been looking a bit off colour for a couple of days & today i noticed that his scales are slightly protruding.i think i'm right when i say that it's known as dropsy & that it isn't a specific illness but more of a description of the symptons (something like that anyway:think: )
anyway, has anyone got any ideas of a possible cure...i know it usually finishes them off but i'm not letting him go without a fight! i've seperated him from the others & am treating him with interpet internal bacteria trreatment.
so, any miracle cures?
thanks!

If its dropsy then his kidneys are infected and its causing his body to bloat with water, which is why his scales are poking out. They sell medicines for dropsy at the pet store, but no one I know has ever cured a fish of dropsy. You might see if you can get him to eat the medicated food they sell, but often times once they're symptomatic they won't eat and all you can use is the stuff that goes in their water.

 I have lost 2 fish to dropsy in the past several years. It's a terrible and sad thing to have happen. I tried feeding them the medicated food and neither of them would eat. I couldn't find the water treatment stuff here, so I was left feeling pretty helpless and worthless.
I wish I could help you, but unfortunately all I can do is offer my sympathies to you and a wish that Dan will recover.
thanks fellas.unfortunately Dan didn't make it :(
cheers for your advice though :)
