We got the annual invitation for the company holiday party yesterday.

Of course, my meal choices are beef or chicken.

This will be my first time at one of these affairs as a vegetarian. How do I handle this. I'm thinking of sending back the card and writing in "vegetarian, please" and seeing what happens. I just don't want to make too big a deal and embarrass DH in front of his colleagues.

I'm sure others have been through this before. What'd ya do? :help:

Send in and write vegetarian. There are millions of folks that dont eat meat for one reason or another and I'm sure the people who are planning the menu just didnt think of that.

In my experience, catering staff can and will come up with a vegetarian meal, if requested. And, the meal is often far nicer than the meat-based meals. If you're unsure what to write on the card, maybe you can contact the venue/caterer and ask what kinds of vegetarian options they can provide.

Yeah, I'd suggest trying to contact them by phone so you can talk to someone.

I had the same thing happen 2 years ago. New company too for my husband. I wrote in "vegetarian meal please" plus I called the resturant. The wait staff were unprepared even though I was assured it would be no problem. I ended up with a plate of steamed vegies. (better than nothing) Too bad they couldn't do something as nice as the other meals. oh well. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Don't just send it back - call them and arrange a veggie meal.

OR, have your DH's event coordinator do it for you. I do this with my own employer for their holiday/company events, and it works out just fine.
